Likely for a while due to a trademark dispute. Basically, someone beat Apple to it up here

http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2007 ... emark.html

I revel in the suffering of the Apple bitches. Maybe they'll be forced to look for similar, superior, cheaper products now.....but likely not.

Of course, it's been available by "eductional" means up here for a long time now. I was looking at an unlocked one yesterday (nope, no desire to get one - I don't own a cell and have no need for one - just wanted to see what the hype was all about; at the end of the day, it's a glorified iPod with phone capabilities)

I'm not entirely sure what your issue is with the price of the Iphone, it was priced lower than that of inferior high end phones, and actually worked to drive the price of high end cell phone technology towards the consumer downward.

Every iteration of the iPoD, the iPhone, iMac, Apple II......quite a bit.

My beef is the same as Maddox's (http:\\maddox.xmission.com), it's the marketing (even worse bullshitters than Sony) and the people who purchase them and not the products themselves . If you noticed, I never said their products suck (unlike Microshaft, their products actually have quality to them).

I've always wondered about that spelling. Is it "peed" or "peeed" or "pee-ed"? Not sure if just tossing a "d" on the end automatically turns it into past tense but what do I know, I'm a Canadian. We spell our stuff improperly, right neighbours? ;-)

Maddox usually makes some good points, but in the case of his Iphone and E70 comparison, he's being a total fucking idiot. That's like comparing a Game Boy Colour with sand in its circuits to a brand new fully functional PSP. The Iphone is way out of the league of the E70, something along the lines of a Prada phone would have been grounds for a better comparison, though that argument could also get shot down.

Sure the Iphone could be cheaper, though, the same could be said for any Nokia phone as well (along with just about every other brand currently in existence).

Man, are we arguing about this again? It seems like I'm repeating myself, but...

90% of their company is marketing. When they iPod came out, people were like

"OMFG!!!!!!!1ONE!!!UNO!!!! A PORTABLE MP3 PLAYER!!!!111!!! I JUST SHIT MY PANTS!!!!!!111!!!!ONE!!!"

As if Apple invented a portable device that played MP3s. There were already good MP3 players out there, that were 10x better and 10x less expensive. And they still exist. (Actually, there's MORE of them, and they are all better than the iPod.) Shellie enjoys her Gigabeat, and it was only $100 for 40GB. That's, what, $400 for an iPod?

And of course, iTunes came out and people were like:

"OMFG!!!!!!!1ONE!!!UNO!!!! A MUSIC DOWNLOAD SITE!!!!111!!! THESE PRICES ARE ALMOST THE COST OF A CD!!!!!!111!!!!ONE!!! AWESOME!!!!111!!!!ONE!!!"

Sites like AllOfMp3/MP3Sparks and eMusic trump iTunes already. Now, the iPhone has come out with an overly expensive phone, and people are like:

"OMFG!!!!!!!1ONE!!!UNO!!!! A CELL PHONE WITH A MUSIC PLAYER AND THE INTERWEBS!!!!111!!! MY DICK JUST EXPLODED!!!!!!111!!!!ONE!!! I WANT TO BUY !0 MILLION OF THESE THINGS WITH MY CHILD SUPPORT MONEY!!!!111!!!!ONE!!!"

Lo and behold, the device sucks, but Apple will make billions because they have an army of groupies, ready to suck their dicks (and give their money away, instead of the other way around) at a moment's notice.

Let's review, shall we:

* iPhone can't customize ringtones with your own mp3s: WHAT... THE... FUCK?!? This is a basic fucking function of a cell phone. If you bought a cell phone and it doesn't allow you to make MP3 ringtones, what is the fucking point?! That's like half the reason you get a cell phone!

* iPhone screen turns into a smudgy piece of shit after a few minutes of use: Yeah, and also the "tactile response" thingy, too. I like buttons, better than pushing on glass.

* iPhone can't send MMS messages Wow! Really, wow! So, the universal standard for phone texting isn't supported on the iPhone. Looks like this is more of an iPod that happens to be able to support calling (barely).

* You have to send your phone to Apple when the battery dies and risk getting your phone lost, stolen, or damaged in transit Compare to their iPod battery problem...

* No voice dialing, and no voice recording Another basic function of cell phones. Even my piece of shit Motorola i710 phone supports it!

* No instant messaging Basic functionality that's out the window. That's okay, you can still chat with MMS...errr, oh, that's right.

* Can't do fundamental tasks like copy & paste text Double negative bitches!

I'm afraid you're going to have to update your research on the Iphone; most of your complaints seem to be software related. In other words, once adequate official software is released, those problems are fixed. On the issue of the screen: I don't know what you are talking about, I have not seen any problems with it at all, do you squeeze Peanutbutter all over your hands before touching the screen?

I think the fact that you carry a Motorola, alone, completely destroys the credibility of your criticisms about Apple and marketing. Remember, Motorola is the same company that launched the RAZR v3 for $800 a year and a half ago, and that things hardware is about the equivilent to a pocket calculator; it doesn't even approach the Iphone in terms of hardware. The reason why the RAZR was so successful was due to marketing, and the fact that it was fashionable at the time. In other words, you bought a product from a company which you should be more highly critisizing, rather than giving any praise to.

He has a point there, Sine. If you have a RAZR or any moto, then boo on you.

I'd like a fully featured smart phone, but have yet to see one that i think i would like for a few years. I like Sprint, but it lacks on the smart phones a bit.

I have Samsungs m610 right now and it is a pretty bad ass conventional flip phone, but nothing like a smart phone.

Just quoting from Maddox. Me? Well, I still have problems with the whole textile thing. I just can't get used to typing stuff on a piece of glass.

I bought? I didn't buy anything. This is my work phone. I know that Motorola makes shitty phones. That's why it's so funny that Motorola's piece of shit i710 (which is a slight step up from a banana phone) will support a bunch of the stuff that iPhone won't. I mean, the fucking phone is like 5-6 years old!

I don't own a RAZR, and I probably never will.

I don't own a cellphone and really see no reason to. Even if work got me one, I would keep it at work when I go home. Last thing I need is to be available 24-7 for work. Work takes up too much of my life as it is and in my industry, they WILL suck you dry if you give them the opportunity.

My goal is to retire yesterday not work like a dog every day of the week for the rest of my life

Up here it's nearly impossible to get a cellphone cheaper than a landline and get even 1/3rd of the features or options (and that's rare). You wanna talk about predatory companies up here, you can't have that discussion without including the cell phone companies. A good deal of my hatred for Bell and Rogers comes from the issues my family - essentially every member - has had with their cellphone. And that ain't hyperbole.

A few of my friends actually have a cellphone instead of a landline. If you don't have both, it can definitely be worth it depending how you use it. But as a convenience, which it will only be to me? WAAAY too expensive

Why do you find it funny that your 16 bit 130x130 screen 30MHz flip-phone has software on it that wasn't released on the 340x480 touchscreen 667 MHz Iphone? Oh well, have fun with voice dialing on your 5-6 year old 2005 model phone =P

I will add, critisizing Apple for not supporting 3rd party software on their phone will soon not be a valid argument. They are releasing iphone SDKs in February, I smell cash opportunities =P

Oh no! Not a day to 3 months off!

Though I still do not see where you are trying to go with your argument. I assume you just worded that wrong and meant the "iphone doesn't support mp3 ringtones" Though, being someone who has tech experience, you should realize that google and the internet can fix that in about 2 minutes with a simple software download. Then you have "half the reason you get a cell phone!"

It looks like half-solutions, people bitching about the same problem, and empty promises from AT&T/Apple. The same for the other problems it has.

Apple and the zealot's responses for these faults are "well, here's a workaround; it's not perfect and it's inconvenient, but ITTSS THE BEST FONE IN DA WORLD!!!!!ONE!!!1!!!" That sounds like iTunes and their lack of MP3 support. Sure, you have to spend your time converting them to MP3, but iTunes is awesome, right? (For that matter, what the fuck is the point of the M4P format if anybody can convert them to MP3?) But, hey, the M4P format works on iPods and everybody has an iPod, right?

Hmmm...Apple owns iTunes. Apple owns iPods. Maybe they are trying to lockdown the market to only use iPods and iTunes? See, Sony and Microsoft try to pull shit like this with proprietary formats and they are called the scum of the earth. Apple pulls this kind of shit and they are worshipped like gods?! Where's the balance?

There's already plenty of devices out there which are superior to iPods and half the price. There is already the same for the iPhone.
