  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

If you are among the VC purchasing audience. Watch Angry Nintendo Nerd's review of it, once again (since I think most people here have seen it): http://mx.youtube.com/watch?v=V4we8iFk-fY

I know I have had arguments here about this game in the past. As I recall, I think it was essentially me and Eric (I think, this is from like 6-7 years ago) who disliked it, and everyone else liked it, and I thought you were all insane =P

It was an awesome game for its time. Like Link's Adventure, it may have been a departure from the formula of the series but it still was a great game in its own right

I didn't think so. I remember thinking it was the most annoying game in existence during its time. Around the time of Castlevania 2 there was Faxanadu, a game followed the same formula, the major difference being that Faxanadu was actually loads of fun.

I don't know if I could call Castlevania a good game, even for its time. When it came out, it was clearly of a lower quality than other games of its time. For example, Adventure of Link also came out around the same time, and that game was also trying something similar, but the game is one I can play nowadays and feel satisfaction in doing so.

What the Angry Nintendo Nerd failed to mention, that I remember having a HUGE problem with, was that Castlevania 2 is actually less advanced than Castlevania 1. You could not do as much in the second game as the first game; they simplified it. This was something I found really frustrating. I don't think there was any justification for simplifying the gameplay.

He's bitching about the players not being able to swim? How many games has that been in? Well, so many that it's a cliche in The Simpsons Game (which oddly enough, has the same cliche in it).

I think the only real problem with Castlevania 2 is that some NPCs lie, and even when they tell the truth, their directions are comically obscure. From my understanding, this isn't a translation problem, either, the original Japanese was equally obtuse. But, that's easily fixed with a FAQ.

I never played more than five minutes of the game, but the Retronauts crew makes it sound pretty funny/aggrivating.

There are more real problems than just the fact that the directions are terrible. There is the fact that the gameplay is EXTREMELY repetetive and shallow in comparison to other Castlevania games. That there are very annoying things like the day to night stuff, sure it doesn't sound like a problem, but when you spend an hour+ killing enemies for money, it gets REALLY iritating, because you can't skip through it; I still have nightmares about that, it wasn't even bad the first hour or so of leveling/moneying, but when you are doing it multiple times it gets really annoying. Then of course there is the lowsy level design, the invisible pitfalls, lack of bosses, and fighting battle system (I.E: no double or triple shots like the first game and others); it was all a real step down from the first game.

Though I do think subsequent Castlevania titles more than made up for it for those of us who bought the second one, and spent precious hours of our childhoods suffering it.

I still have ****ing nightmares about this game! The boring repetetive kind.

Still looking for those two, they're quite expensive. A boxless Pro Am 2 goes for over $20 online. I lost a bid on one with a book and box for over $30

The Angry Nintendo Nerd brings up some good points, but eh, I loved this game as a kid and would probably download it for nostalgia alone. Simon's Quest was my introduction to Castlevania and I still think it has some of the best music in the series.

JoblessCromax.

Heh, I don't even have a 360. My friend and his brother let me use the 48 hour XBL Gold pass that came with theirs. I started last week expecting it to end during the weekend, but it turns out that my membership's good til the end of the month.
