  • The N-pire strikes back, October NPD sales

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Sorry for the title, I couldn't help myself =P

October NPD sales data:

Wii - 519,000
DS - 458,000
360 - 366,000
PSP - 286,000
PS2 - 184,000
PS3 - 121,000

Keep in mind as well that there has actually been a ~25% increase in Wii (well Wii sales for October are higher than they were for September regardless) and DS sales from September, October NPD sales covered 4 weeks while the September ones covered 5 weeks.

Next Enterbrain charts for Japan should be interesting with the new PS3 model, pack in deal with Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, and price drop. Last week the Xbox 360 actually beat out the PS3 with the release of the new Ace Combat game; no one would have EVER thought a Microsoft system would ever outsell a Sony system in Japan before a year ago. Though I do think this will be a big couple of weeks for the PS3 in Japan. Nintendo has a new DVD capable model Wii coming out soon as well, though I think this is still 6-8 weeks away.

In addition, Nintendo of America's Perrin Kaplan also announced they have some official numbers for the past week to release soon. This week saw the release of Mario Galaxy.

Are DVD players uncommon in Japan or something? I've been hearing about the DVD playback Wiis for some time, but what's the point? Who doesn't own a DVD player now? It may have made sense in 2001-2002 with the Panasonic Q, but now?

Perceived value, it makes a difference with the holdouts

Also, when the hell are we gonna see the new colours of the Wii? We got a preview of it with the original marketing before release but not a word since. Just curious when the Wii officially becomes the DS-Home (Wii is following the exact business strategy as the handhelds Nintendo has made)

I LOVE how obviously biased that chart is on the latest news story! They throw ALL THREE Sony platforms under 1 item, then still break out DS and Wii.... it's so freakin blatant especially when you notice if they did a "Nintendo family" it'd be about double Sony's.

I noticed when looking at a sampling of Japanese 360 players (just look through the E4 score list) that most where playing Ace Combat 3. It was fucking weird. It's like that game is as popular in Japan as Halo 3 is here, comparatively speaking.

Yeah, it's almost like the site is supposed to be a joke on purpose. Of course, I don't know if it's supposed to be Jack Chick funny or Onion funny.

EDIT: Look at "Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction Review: 10.5/10". It's got to be a joke site. (Not to rip on Ratchet and Clank, but that's still over-the-top.)

What must be best is for that guy to see people BELIEVE what he's spewing... and there are a few in the comments like that.
