I know that I keep asking about top anime to watch, and yeah, everybody has a conflicting opinion about any anime. But, we are looking for some more anime to watch.

I'm generally a fan of sci-fi based anime. Ergo Proxy was what we saw recently, and it was good. GitS:SAC remains to be one of my favorite series, because of the intelligent story (with serious dialogue). I guess these are more into the "adult anime" because they don't do that goofy anime shit.

Though, I'm also a fan of series like FMA, because I like how they mix science into battles. (Kenshin and Naruto are somewhat like that, too.)

I don't like "present day" or sports series, because when I watch anime, I want to see something different. (Present day is fine, I guess, but if it's just a basic detective series or something I could watch on US TV, why bother?)

Total list of animes that we've seen:

Naruto
Bleach
DBZ
EVA
Elfin Lied
Black Blood Brothers
Hellsing
Fullmetal Alchemist
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo
Trigun
Rurouni Kenshin
Gundam Wing
Big-O
FLCL
Ergo Proxy
Record of Lodoss War
Serial Experiments Lain
Gungrave
The Maxx (I'll just count that as anime)
Ghost in the Shell: SAC
.hack//SIGN

Movies:

Akira
Grave of the Fireflies
Howl's Moving Castle
Princess Mononoke
Metropolis
Ninja Scroll
Perfect Blue
Ghost in the Shell

If I listed the anime I watched it would stretch forever :P

Off the top of my head I don't see Gantz on there-- very good to check out. Along the same lines as Elfin Lied in terms of content.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya definitely, Full Metal Panic is another great series, Desert Punk, Gun Sword was an interesting one (a lot like Trigun). How is Evangelion not on your list?

s-cry-ed, GTO, Vandread, Last Exile, Heat Guy J, Read or Die (ROD), Sayuki, Tenjo Tenge, Scrapped Princess, Peacemaker, Fafner,

Special Mention: Ghost Stories. An anime so bad that the company that licensed it for the US threw away the script and turned it into a comedy... so funny.

That should keep you guys busy for a while ;)

In more recent shows you may want to give a few of the shows that are running right now a download. Rental Magica and Dragonaut: The Resonance, are both very good so far, and if you haven't given it a try yet, check out D-Gray Man.

I think we have Read or Die somewhere. I know I have Full Metal Panic and Peace Maker Kurogane. I think we have Last Exile somewhere, too.

I tried watching s-CRY-ed, and the story just wasn't interesting enough (neither were the battles).

Great Teacher Onizuka's plot looks pretty normal and boring. Heat Guy J is about the stupidest name for an anime, but the plot looks interesting. Tenjo Tenge looks pretty damn close to hentai. Another one I was looking at, xxxHolic, looks to be the same way.

Other ones I found were: Noein, Mushishi (top rated on ANN), Texhnolyze.

That's a lot to process. Which one of these series are really really good?

I have long been a fan of xxxHOLiC and would recomend you give it a try. You may also like it's sister series Tsubasa Chronicle.

Don't listen to him! Berserk is as homosexual as anime gets! He just can't stop watching the scene where the big horrible killing machine is having a playful naked water fight with his commander x_x

Well, I'm not watching Berserk because it's really old, and I'm not watching a goddamn anime about the game of Go. That is about as dumb as an anime about tennis.

EDIT: Cannot find:

Heat Guy J
xxxHolic
Ghost Stories (torrent error; can't seem to scrape)

ADMIN EDIT: I had to turn off BBCode, and fix these url tags, because

1) phpBB fucking sucks, and can't handle sloppy BB tags.
2) I guess the combination of the (anime) part and the URL format (which doesn't work) will break it.

Well excuuuuse me... but I got all my anime (except fansubbed ones) off of Netflix like a LAW ABIDING CITIZEN. Hell, to give you that list I basically read down the list of DVD's I've rented from them over the past 4 years-- very convenient.

Sine, just watch it, give it 5-6 episodes. It's MUCH better than you think it's going to be and not exactly what you think either. It's not like I went in saying "man, I NEED to see an anime about Go!".

Death Note is a no brainer, just watch it. It's freaking amazing and only 37 eps.

When you're done those, check out Yakitate, which is an anime about baking bread. Again, sounds ridiculous but it's freakin' awesome. Caused me to stop watching Bleach so I could finish it.

And if you want anime, the best site I've found is www.boxtorrents.com. I'm grabbing Infinite Ryvius right now, but it has pretty much everything there.

you do have to have an account, and they do make you keep a share ratio of .8 or higher, if I remember right. Mine is like 4.6 so I have no problems at this point. But the torrents on box are pretty much all whole series.

Keep trying to get an account, it's the best overall anime site I've found. Once you do:

Go get Death Note

Then Hikaru no Go

Then Yakitate (this one ain't licenced, so you can get it from AnimeSuki)

Couldn't stand even the first episode of Tenjou Tenge. Too much fan service (without actually showing anything), and I can't stand the girlish plot.

Noein actually looked interesting. See, that's how to do a first episode: lots of fighting, wierd sci-fi shit, and CGI animation.

BTW, the dubbing for Noein was much better than Tenjou Tenge, too.

TT is just all about huge breasted girls in mini skirts fighting to the death... I found it's fan service a lot better than most.

Now I'm going to have to actually WATCH Noein... I've been taping it off of Scifi since it first came on and never bothered to watch a single episode.

One thing I hate is skipping episodes even if they're brutal. I watched all of the Naruto filler even though I knew it was going to be garbage. No rhyme or reason, just one of those things.

I have thought about it, though, I have to admit

In a way, I'm ashamed to admit that I even know what the "Bount Arc" is. But I do have this knowledge thanks to Wikipedia. :)

Apparently it's an anime-specific story that's meant to allow the written manga time to create more content.

That said, I enjoyed the Bount storyline a lot. Started off slow with that puzzle goofiness, but I liked the finished product. If you're going to do filler, just make sure it's entertaining.

Canadian dollar has been less than the US dollar for a couple of weeks now although that may change with us lowering our interest rates this past Tuesday

Watch Death Note, it's amazing to watch even if you know the ending. The first 25 eps of the L arc are incredible and I even liked the 12 N arc episodes. I didn't read the manga so to me, it was well done.

Yakitate is a shockingly good anime and very fun to watch. Even had a bud of mine semi into it and he doesn't like anime. I actually stopped watching Bleach to focus on Yakitate and didn't pick up again until all 69 eps were done. Like Hikaru No Go, you wouldn't imagine yourself liking an anime with that kind of premise but you can't stop watching it.

I was blissfully ignorant until you actually pointed out that it was a spoiler.

Anyway, all of these downloads, and I'm still just watching Bleach/Naruto. I did get through a lot of Mushishi. It's very intriguing, but I wish it started to manifest itself into a story arc. Sometimes it's kinda boring watching one-off episodes all the time.

It's mostly Shellie's fault. I guess she needs to be in the mood to watch new stuff.

I didn't spoil nothin'. There's no details in there at all, just saying how long an arc is and giving it a name (like the Aizen arc in Bleach I'm going through right now) doesn't really tell you wanything. Don and Eric were mentioning how the arcs related to the manga and all this jazz before and how they condensed the N arc from the manga during my watching of it and it meant really nothing and spoiled nothing.

L = L. Lawliet

Or just Lawliet, the translation on the 13th chapter was meh. Viz is releasing it early 2008.

 #115231  by Don

I think it'd be funny if L's name was Lawerence L Taylor like what it said the first time he appeared. Originally L was just L. It never stood for anything. He was simply "L", but I guess they needed something extra to sell the 'behind the scenes' volume.

All the Alphabet guys use the first letter of their name as their designation, namely L, W, M, and N. To really appreciate Death Note, you've to realize that this whole thing is a game for the Alphabet guys. In a typical good versus evil deal, the Alphabet guys each possess abilities to be considered a boss. Even their minions have power that's comparable to most villians (like one of the FBI guy, and certainly W). There's really no question that good is ever going to lose to evil. If things actually get out of hand someone like W or similar abilities can always just assassinate whoever they suspect to be Kira. In light of the overwhelming advantage of the Alphabet guys, I think the Anime did a better way of explaining how Kira was able to even stay alive for so long while being thoroughly outgunned and outmatched in every single way.

Okay, we finished Death Note (another thread) a while ago.

We've been watching Mushishi for a bit (up to episode 9), and it's pretty good, but kinda boring. Does it pick up at all? I was hoping something better for the #4 top rated anime on ANN. The lack of a continuous storyline is really killing it.

Noein is... well, weird. They keep mentioning all of this unknown bullshit (with as much cryptic dialogue as a Star Trek episode), and then go back to a bunch of kids playing. I really don't know what to think of it. It doesn't have nearly the appeal as Ergo Proxy, but is it worth watching? I just which it would start to answer some questions, instead of daring me to continue just so that I'm not completely confused.

Full Metal Panic caught me completely off-guard. It's not the type of series I would ever be interested in, but some of the situations are LOL funny. It sorta reminds me of Excel Saga. I'm at episode 5, and I hope they can keep up with the same type of situations and still be funny.

Finally found XXXHolic, but I still can't get Heat Guy J or Ghost Stories.
