I've been looking at the reviews on 1up lately and they've all been just uninhibitedly harsh on the games they are reviewing. There hasn't been a score above a 6 for a few weeks. Is this backlash from 1up over the gaming journalism scandal, or are the post-christmas games just so terrible that they need to score under the radar of the previous score range of 6-9?

They've made a point about wanting to use the entire range of their twenty-point scale, which does make them seem harsher than a lot of sites that tend to score between 7 and 9. There have been quite a few games since Christmas that have scored above 6, though:

...and the ones that haven't have looked to have been pretty dire.

Yeah, 5 is average on a 10-point scale. This isn't grade school.
