I think Kali's the only one here who has played more than the demo.

The demo made me ill. The characters are disgusting to look at and listen to. Apply only if you're a Toriyama lover or a weeaboo, as it seems to be a very standard JRPG.

where is this deal? I would get it for that price to see if the girlfriend likes it or not.

My prediction: headed to the Walmart bargain bin in less than 6 months.

I'd say even sooner than that. It should hit $30 new relatively shortly which means $20 used at a non-EB store. So that would mean I could get it for around $15 at which point it may be worth it for what seems to be considered a mediocre RPG

This one is quite below standard if the reviews are correct.

Surprisingly it has a GR average of 77%. I would have thought it would be closer to 65%.

Hmmm, perhaps it isn't as bad as it looks; I noticed that Gamespot gave it a 6, and that is probably the only review I read of it. a 77% would put it on par with the first Shadow Hearts (which had interesting concepts, but altogether flawed; in other words, if you are interested in the concept, the game might be worth a lot more to people who can get around the flaws if they like the concepts)[/i]

it's not even below standard. it's just a standard generic game. there is pretty much nothing new or exciting it's just extremely generic

Lost Odyssey is Mistwalker's big one and it's coming out in February. It's supposed to be pretty good. Why not just take the money you were gong to spend on Blue Dragon and subsidize that one instead?

Then you can beat Lost Odyssey and use the higher trade-in value towards what should be a discounted Blue Dragon by then. That should leave you with some additional trade value for something else.

I was under the impression that Blue Dragon was the big project for 360? It is getting better reviews than Lost Odyssey so far.

I'm under the impression that Square should fire everybody from the ENIX side and rename themselves to Squaresoft.

Enix games, although not many, are extremely well performers from a business point of view. It was a brilliant move IMO

I don't think Enix was ever that profitable, but rather Squre lost about a zillion dollar from the ill fated FF the Movie.

I'm under the impression that Enix is hitting Square like a pinata until FF remakes come out.

Alternative analogy: Enix is force-molting Square to produce FF remakes.

Hahahaha! I get this impression also. Poor old Square. They're definitely the bottom in that relationship.

I could easily say the same thing for Dragon Quest and its similar ilk. After all, we are talking about Blue Dragon, which might as well be some other DQ game.

That was basically the point of it. It's been said that Mistwalker was funded to make Dragon Quest (Blue Dragon) and Final Fantasy (Lost Odyssey) ripoffs.

I heard even the manga for Blue Dragon sucked, even though it's drawn by the same guy who did Death Note and HNG whose name is usually enough to at least fool some people into buying stuff.

I think Square would find that difficult considering Enix pretty much owns them.

On Blue Dragon, is it really like Dragon Quest? Because I quite like Dragon Quest 8, it is among my very favourite RPGs in the past 5 years.

You guys do know that in the merger, Enix was the dominant party, right? It was something on the order of 1.8:1 ratio of Enix to Square shares for the new company if my memory serves me right.

Enix is a money making machine. They may not be as big, particularly overseas, but they are profitable as fuck.

Enix makes money from what... Dragon Quest? And what else? They have some manga stuff going that's like printing money, but it's not anywhere near a best seller. They have remakes on handhelds that's probably like printing money too, but then FF caught on to pretty quick.

If I recall Square put some absolutely stupid amount of money in their Hawaii studio that basically accomplished nothing. The fact they even have half of Enix's capitalization says a lot about how big they are.

So, how did this turn into a dissection of the Enix company, considering Enix HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH BLUE DRAGON?

Well, since I may have to get a new wireless hub for my computer, I prolly won't get this game yet--though I am curious to play it at some point. Maybe Lost Odyssey...

If a smaller company is dominant in the merger of a larger company that means it's a stronger company. Size don't equal strength.

Not sure what else they do (for Konami, games aren't the majority of their business, maybe it was the same with Enix?), but it's rather obvious that Enix was on much stronger footing from a business sense than Square.

And from what I've seen, the FF remakes don't seem to touch the DQ ones in terms of sales. DQ4 for PSX in Japan sold something like 2 million copies, it was insane. Them Japanese luvs their DQ.

Well, you can't really attribute any development to Enix, they are a publishing company. The companies who made Dragon Quest are mainly Chunsoft and Tri-Ace, and a number of other studios. Enix is primarilly not a videogame company. The breakdown of Enix's revenue is as follows;

Total: 163.4 billion yen (1.53 billion U.S. dollars)

Video games: 64.9 billion yen
Mobile content: 7.7 billion yen
Publication: 11.2 billion yen
Other/entertainment: 79.8 billion yen

It could be porn. It could be toys as well; such as action figures. Probably a large number of things.
