  • Virtual Console game #200 is Harvest Moon

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

The SNES version of Harvest Moon was quite a bit of fun. It has been a while since I have played it; there is Rune Factory out now which is the first one that is a nice step over the original formula. It is a certain download for me on the Virtual Console, whether I'll play it or not in light of Rune Factory is another question. One thing I like about the original game is that it has strong replay value and doesn't go on forever like other Harvest Moon games; you complete a story, get a score, and then you can play it again. The characters in the original were also quite good, I haven't really played the others for comparison though. This was the last game for SNES I purchased (released over 10 years ago now), and one that I had fond memories of.

I have never actually seen the show, and am not quite sure what it is about.
You are better off because of it!
They seem to like it.

On the topic of Harvest Moon, it's a good deal, 8 dollars for a game that costs 100 dollars on Ebay. It is also the game that, to this day, I would recommend for people to play if they are interested in the concept of the series, but haven't yet played any. Why? This is the game that most people seem to compare all later installments over the past decade against. It seems that the characters from this particular one always seem to do well on any favourite character polls.

So I got Harvest Moon, and indeed, the game is still as fun as I remember it being. Looks like this one has the timeless factor going for it; which may not be true about newer iterations of the game.

I tend to find that a lot of SNES games, particularly the later ones, hold up quite well. Although we do have some spectacular 2D games on the Saturn and PSX, 2D was really in its heyday on the SNES and some Genesis games, although they have tended to age a little more due more likely to their styles rather than any technological aspects (the Genesis did have "blast processing" after all and did what "Nintendon't" LMAO). It's different with the NES/Master System games which are really starting to age

Depends on the game: Super Mario Brothers 3 (in its original NES form) is definitely timeless. It was such a well crafted game, and the art style really holds up.

I ain't so hard-on for SMB3 as most. I preferred World over it, actually. And Yoshi's Island was the best of the 2D Mario games IMO

I can't wait for that to hit the VC. My cart needs the most gentle of touches to actually work.
