Oh how I love this game. If you are at all any sort of remote fan of this anti-gravity racing series, you should pick up this game on your little portable playstation. I have only been playing this game in extremely small doses, but I do love it. The single player is very robust, but offers more zone, time trial, and speed laps than I would like.

If you've never played the series, the zone races are about arbitrarily picking your racing team, because all the craft are the same for this race type, and going fast. You start out at a slow speed and gradually accelerate through checkpoints (zones), and you must clear a certain amount of these zoney checkpointy things in order to place gold, silver or bronze. The race ends when run in to the walls enough to explode.

I'm a pretty calm fellow, and I do not get tense when I play videogames very often. The only times I ever get tense, or gain sweaty hands is when I am playing some sort of online deathmatch, online splinter cell, or playing zone on wipeout. It gets a bit fast and hectic right before you lose all your shields and die.

The rest of the game is your regular wipeout fair with various teams with a vehicle that you must choose that meets your stats requirements and racing style (assegai, woot!). The races are standard affairs with speed boosts and weapons littered about. There is apparently a fairly good online aspect to this iteration of the series, but I have not tried it out (it takes me a while to gain the courage to hit the online field). Music is good, graphics are the best I've seen on the PSP so far.... except maybe patapon. Anyways, give this game a go if you know anyone with it, are looking for something to rent and own a PSP, or if you enjoy the series and have a PSP, go and buy it. Bovine out.

Sadly, I've only played the very first Wipeout and it's sequel, XL. The first never grabbed me, but I did have a bit of fun with the second. If I didn't already have loads to play right now (currently: COD4, FF6A, FFT, Rock Band) I might give it a go. I also want to get Patapon but money's starting to get tight...
