  • Blizzard reveals the Zerg for Starcraft 2.

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

I'm going to recommend you guys try out Dawn of War on your computertrons. It's on steam now and the 4th expansion was released last week [new addition = 2 new races (9 in total now) and air units!!!!]. It's super fun and certainly in the same vein as starcraft. I say this as some may have heard tell of how warhammer may or may not have been the very blatant inspiration for the warcraft series, and thus some may contend that starcraft is then of similar origins in relation to warhammer 40k. Regardless, it's a great game and yalls should try it out. One race, the necrons, are zombie alien robots. What else do you need? Seriously?

Well, I know it is a bit much, but Zombie Alien Cyborgs linked in a collective hive mind?

I've been skimming the wiki and it says something like most necrons have lost their sentience. They are husks of a previous sentient species or something like that. Oh, and they have guns.

Watching that first video made me sad inside. The zerg is going to be unbalanced because Blizzard doesn't know the first thing on balancing any game. (Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, Diablo II, possibly even WoW, do I need even more evidence?)

I pray you're just trying to troll because otherwise you're an idiot. The original Starcraft has always been hailed as a very balanced game and one of the few reasons it's still played ot this day. I don't remember WC3 ever being complained as being unbalanced either, and Diablo / WoW are totally different games.

That being said this was hella sweet. I am not paying attention to the balance because it'll be nothing like this when released... but holy crap look at that fluid motion. The zerg move LIKE a swarm as they devour, and the air units moving their tails around, nice!

In addition, how many Terran players are going to defend like that?

Thats somewhat debatable. While as a whole the game appears balanced, the formula zerg>protoss>terran>zerg applies. So, everyone gets to beat up on someone atleast.

The only way Starcraft would appear balanced is if you suck equally with all 3 races, and even then you'd notice you suck less with one of the race compared to others.

Blizzard's track record for balance is nonexistent, but balance is not a prerequisite for a good game. Variety and balance is mutually exclusive anyway.

No, you're an idiot for thinking that StarCraft was balanced. Other cases:

Diablo II = Only Blizzard could make a game where entire skill trees were vastly inferior to the "skill tree you should be picking" Necros and Sorcs are good examples.

Warcraft II = Bloodlust FTW.

Diablo = Gee, how many Diamond Rings of the Zodiac with 17% to all elementals am I going to see on trade chat?

Warcraft 3 reminds me of what the Sirlin guy said about MvC2. If the game throws you 60 characters, it'd take a while before anyone figured out which of the 10 characters are actually good and which 50 sucks. Warcraft 3's sheer variety will delude you into thinking maybe you just need to be better at this game because it'd take a long time before the average player figures out a dominant strat due to the sheer choices.

In fact, Blizzard's really at fooling the average player into thinking he has a chance to become good at these games before reality inevitable kicks in.

I didn't get into Warcraft 3, but for Starcraft I found I could defeat mostly everyone using any of the races, but Zerg was certainly the race I did best with.
