I coulda sworn thats what I heard too... wasn't that what they did with Beowulf? Wasn't it in 3D without goofy glasses?
Not sure, I saw it in a normal theatre. But they made these 3D cameras that so many directors are using now. Hell, Steven Speilberg has even stated they'll be used for that Tintin trilogy he's doin' with Peter Jackson and that guy HATES technological advacement in filming equipment.
The idea from what I remember reading is that they're supposed to have 3D projectors too, so the image can be displayed in 3D rather than the faux 3D shit we have now (that technology is SOO old too). If you think about it, it's the only way to convert most theatres to 3D since the current way is only good for huge, IMAX-like screens.
It's supposed to be the next big thing to bring people back to the theatres. The industry can smell the death kneel of the theatre experience and need to change things up very soon. That's what those special AMC theaters are, where you pay $30 or something and you get catering to your comfy couch as you watch the movie in an intimate experience; like a super home-theatre that most can't afford.
And making people wear 3D glasses and putting them on and off all the time sure as hell ain't no way to entice people to spend extra dough on movies.
