Somehow I think that would annoy me.

Tetsuya Nomura ships neon-painted zipper mantoys.

I can't really find myself liking this, really. It just...it stinks of gimmick.

It's called "evolution". Sometimes there are bumps in the road but they do need to try new things now and then.

Yes, and I'm fine with it in that respect.

It's just...hmm...I dunno.

I likely won't get it. I already have two DS RPGs I've been neglecting, and I'm still wanting to buy Professor Layton too. I've not time to check it out--and the fact that Tetsuya Nomura is behind it makes it all the more unappetizing.

Still, you can't ignore a 9.0 rating. Maybe this is another Earthbound: present-day RPG elevated to cult classic status.

Halo 3 got all 10s, and that game is a steaming pile of shite.

Yeah, but Halo 3 was running on the hype wagon so you have to take that into account. A virtual unkown with 9.0s stands out more to me.

I've played through the most tiny portion of the game and can tell you that, if anything, it is interesting. The battle system (so far) is nothing like I've really seen before.... like a mix between kingdom hearts and ontamarama.... if that makes any sense

Looks very cool and I love Nomura's designs.

I'm not gonna buy a DS for it though.

No, you should really buy a DS for the other 20 must-haves on the system :-)

Now ya see, if they were "must haves" I'd already have them, wouldn't I? Oo

Dontcha remember, I'm a graphics whore. Big screen graphics whore!

I remember, but I also remember you being a bit of a gameplay whore too. Lots of great gameplay on that little system...and Castlevania games ;-)

The Castlevania games almost got me...but I'd still rather play them on a big screen. Maybe they can release a giant infrared stylus for the Wii...that would be cool.

I've had my DS for almost 2 years now... it's sat on my desk shelf here for about 1.9 years of that time.

That being said... I *might* actually get this one... but I wouldn't hold my breath. LOTRO is still going strong for me and GTA4 is preordered.

1UP's review on this game has made it more appealing to me. I'm also getting back into my DS, with Revenant Wings consuming my soul, so I may pick this up...

But, then again, I have Persona 3: FES to buy, and Professor Layton, and I'm only about half-way through Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker...

You guys need to beat your DS games!!! It's the only system I consistently finish games on. :) It helps that I can do it on the crapper at work. hahaha

Haha, it's a good system to have around to play whenever there's a spare minute or waiting involved and no good conversation present. I like Phoenix Wright and similar style games because they're essentially half book and half videogame. Plus Phoenix Wright is a game you can play for a minute or 5 hours at essentially any point (except the whole last case of Phoenix Wright 3 which kept me up all night the night I played it).

Games in this category include: Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice, Trace Memory, Hotel Dusk, Professor Layton. Have any slipped my mind?

Enjoying it fairly well, but I have a few gripes:

First of all, is this game make for two players or what? How the fuck do they expect you to control two characters AT THE SAME TIME while fighting?? So far, I've just put the other character on auto, but I just can't grasp the concept of playing this game on manual. Seriously, the battles are fast paced enough that you really can't be paying attention to both screens, and if you try to toggle back and forth, like the combo system implies, you end up getting everybody hurt.

Two, with the battles, forcing to use the stylus is a bit annoying on some things. I find that if I couple pins that use similar motions for battles, it works out, but when I start using different motion pins, it's hard to know when the other one runs out, and then I figure out rather late that I need to use the other one. Not to mention that even movement requires the stylus, which is kinda stupid. (Of course, when you have to control TWO PEOPLE AT THE SAME TIME, yeah, they need the control pad for the other person.)

Three, the animation is pretty lazy. Fighting and moving around it fine, but the actual story telling is composed of moving around backgrounds and shit. It's like they graduated from the Phoenix Wright School of Animation. I hope this isn't a trend in DS games, because the technology is FAR more advanced than that. (I'm not asking for FMV; I just want some fucking sprite movement.)
