  • Square has a very interesting looking horror title coming...

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

"Here are some new images of Square Enix's Nintendo DS horror adventure game Nanasi no Geemu. In the game you play as a 20 year old university student, one day he and his friends received notes of "The game of curse", which said you are cursed, and you must pass the note to other people or you will die within 1 week. You and your friends laughed at the notes, but after that everything suddenly changed around you, your friends died one by one in horrible incidents, and it will soon be your turn, you must find a way to escape death."

I am quite fond of the art style, and it seems that there is a late-NES/early SNES style RPG at least as some sort of minigame or portion of the main story.

Looks pretty bizarre.

Is that...FF2? I think the RPG thingy is FF2.

Which sucks.

I am not sure what it is, it might be just a made up game within that game.

Me thinks somebody got The Ring crossed with Final Destination. It's unusual for a game, but would make a dumb (and copied) movie idea.

I have never actually seen the Ring, is it worth going out of my way to watch?

The Ring scared the crap out of me when I saw it in the theaters. It's well made, and scary without being gorey. Something about it lingered in my mind after watching it.

No idea if it'll do the same for you. Also, since then, there have been more American remakes of Japanese horror movies, so it might not seem as fresh now.

That sounds like something I am going to want to watch on this weekend =)

I also have access to the Japanese movie it is based on, if I should watch that one instead?

No idea, it depends on your tastes. I've seen some screens from the Japanese one, and it doesn't seem as scary. But I think that's mostly because as an American, the American style of film-making resonates with me more.

I thought The Ring was gonna be another stupid horror movie, but when I actually watched it, it was one of the few horror movies that actually scared me. Same with The Grudge.

Meh, i found the ring to be a typical "WEAREGOINGTOFLASHASCARYFACEFORPOINT3SECONDSANDMAKEALOUDNOISEJUSTTOSCAREYOU!!!!" kind of movie. There are too many cheap scares to count...

Likely. You're more used to it. The familiarity leads to a better chance of immersion

The Ring terrified me.

I haven't seen the American version of The Ring, but the Japanese version bored me to tears. I got the impression that it was tapping deep into very particularly Japanese neuroses and so I was completely immune. My cousin actually fell asleep while we were watching it, heh.

I think I'll watch the North American version.
