  • Ikaruga fans, they've decide to make a hard game for ya

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

From my understanding of shooters, bullet hell games like the one listed above is very different from a game like Ikaruga.

Have you played Ikaruga? The screen is filled with bullets, the secret is trying to figure out when to change from light to dark and vice versa to absorb them.

This one isn't level based like Ikaruga, but it would appeal to the same crowd. I have the DC version, it was quite fun

The density of the bullets alone does not determine whether a game falls under the bullet hell or not category. Generally speaking bullet hell games implies you have to go between bullets most if not all the time.

By the virtue of being able to absorb bullets implies you're not supposed to be dodging them. As far as I know you're never supposed to just try to go between 2 bullets instead of using the right polarity shift in Ikaruga. This is very different from a bullet hell game where you're always supposed to go between 2 bullets to dodge something.

Not that there's anything inherently good or bad about either, but the bullet hell genre doesn't exactly play the same as a typical shooter is all I'm saying.

If I remember correctly, in Bangai-O, you shoot the bullets down. Same idea as collecting them (a la Radiant, Ikaruga, and Mars Matrix) and far different than dodging them

Well, the bullet density looks too dense to be a normal shooter without some special gimmick to neutralize them.

Here is a game representative of the genre I'm talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz3pryYeed4

You absolutely have to dodge all these bullets once your bombs are up, and you basically can't even see the enemies because the screen is packed with bullets.

Bullet hell, huh? I didn't even realize that there was a category for this.

I hearby state that I HATE all games of this category.

They should just call it "For Asians Only" and be done with it.

Seriously--this is the sort of thing only crazy Koreans with trigger reflexes could beat.

Actually, in Ikaruga, espically in boss fights, you would have to dodge a ton of bullets in order to hit the boss with the color it was weak to. You don't HAVE to do it that way, but it makes the bosses quicker kills and earns you more points.

That's why Radiant and Ikaruga are such excellent games. They're much deeper than other shooters

I probably would have liked Silvergun. I like weapons-heavy shooters.

Radiant is still my fav. As amazing as Ikaruga is, Radiant had that shred more. The fact that you built up the power levels on your weapons, had 6 of them to choose from at any time (only really used 3, but still), had the sword to capture the bullets and store up a super shot, and even had the little special areas you would find with a certain weapon on top of amazing level and boss design (in those shooters, bosses are a HUGE part of the game) made it just an incredible game....and FUCKING hard

Id love to see some of these remakes for the PSP. With the 16:9 screen size, it would look great on its side...

Oh yeah, man, that would rock. I'd buy them again just to play them on the go.

For people who like shooters, it's almost a crime they can't play Radiant. I actually picked it up on a whim from Rhfactor (let's see who remembers her...) when she decided to dump her games. Best $35 I ever spent.

And it's nothing for them to import it. The menus are in English. It really is the best shooter ever with only Ikaruga even close (very close). There have been some amazing ones (G. Darius, Thunderforce 5, Gradius 3, etc.) but those two are really in a level on their own. And Radiant is still the king
