Well, I guess I was dead wrong about next year for this thing.....

I still don't get why, though, especially if they're gonna keep the Lite on the market. Are they trying to wean people off of the Lite onto the DSi? Hoping to bring something up to the PSP range?

EDIT: and if they're trying to capture a different market, didn't they already try, and fail, with that with the Micro?

Well, it's not the DS2, that I was expecting (something with an improved ARM processor, since the tech is skyrocketing). It's a regular DS that has all the features that one would have expected on the DS2, it's own version of WiiWare, two VGA Cameras, an internal drive, and an SD memory card slot.

The only thing on there I'd really like is the SD card slot, but not for an extra $50. I already have a nicer camera that is smaller than a DS Lite.

I'm really hoping we see a price drop of the DS Lite now, but I'm not betting on it.

No GBA slot? They just made my choice easy. I'll eventually pick up a Lite.

IGN did an interview with Cammy. It seems that they will be exploring a lot of non-gaming applications for the DSi, similar to the iPhone. There could be options for something like a sports updater (they used baseball as an example); which I would imagine would be similar to the iPhone's weather/stock market index updater.

Unless she's dishing the goods about her latest skiing trip, I'm not interested.

Who the hell wants that? Everyone is already carrying a cell phone that CAN ALREADY DO THAT (and do it well)! Why the hell would I want my portable game system to do it too? Freakin waste of time and technology

I would probably guess that the number is in the millions for those who would utilize the system for non-gaming applications. Not everyone has cell phones that do that (ask Zeus), and if cell phones are doing this already, then why not handheld gaming systems as well? It would seem to make sense for them to do this if it is a standard in portable electronic devices.

One last thing: it's funny that all of the sudden you have taken such an interest in your Nintendo products when I was quite sure you didn't use them.

Well, aside from the fact that not everyone has a cellphone, there's more things you can do with the DSi's capabilities, like actually mess around with the pictures in the editor.

I think it's a way for them to take what they think is now a device which is starting to get to a huge mass market level and make it more appealing and increase it's perceived value. It may not be up there with cells or iPods in terms of penetration, but DSs are very common now. They may be on to something, I don't know.

On a personal level, I think it's something that's useless. I mean, if I want to do all that I can do it on a smaller device. But others, particularly late grade or early high school kids, may see it as something that's great

Yeah, it's so easy to get the two confused.
