  • They need to stop giving games perfect scores.

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

I'm sick of seeing so many games getting 100's on metacritic and other rating sites. Fable II got a 100 on many sites, but by no means is it a perfect game, its a good game, but its definitely not a 100, end of the game and length alone should knock it down. Another good example was Bioshock. I love Bioshock, but the pipe game every time to hack? come on that alone was a feature that should have cost it a few points. A fix to that could have been different minigames, but that an argument for another topic.

I'm just sick of all these reviewers giving 100, because it makes the score seem so pointless.

Thoughts?

How many times have we had this discussion? A 10/10, 100/100 or A+ score does not mean the game is perfect. It doesn't even mean the game has no faults. What is means is that it's the best of what is currently available.

Just don't pay attention to reviewers that give out top scores (100%, 10/10, A+, etc...) to games that don't deserve it. Those scores generally don't mean perfect, but rather that the game is the favourite of the reviewer at the time (or some money thing).

I generally ignore review scores and follow developers and genres that I like. IE. Xenosaga may not have scored as highly as other games, but I like it as much as many of the best of them; monolith soft + rpg is what I am looking for.

It doesn't bother me. What does a score mean anyway? It's just a representation of what a particular reviewer thought of a particular game. People are so different and expectations are so varied that I can't really take any reviewer's score as a way to decide whether a game is good or not even if I tend to agree with that reviewer.

Read this thread five times: viewtopic.php?t=12315&highlight=perfect+score

If you think you actually have something new to contribute after reading that thread five (5) times, then bring this up again.

If a game has to be perfect to get a score of 10 or whatever, we'd be in a very depressing world.

IGN Nintendo is probably the hardest site to get a perfect 10 out of, they have only given out one in the history of the site (even before they were a part of IGN).

I forgot about how bad this previous post got...

I just think using the 100/100 system is indeed more like yes this is PERFECT. I think the 5 star and 10/10 are a bit more forgivable. I still take the 100/100 as a test in college where you knew the answers weather it be Multiple Choice or Essay even :-p

The entire concept of a "perfect" game is intellectually bankrupt. It has no meaning. If your complaint is that a 100 point scale for a game is ridiculous, then I agree. But that's a different issue.

Five times. Did you read through it five times?

If you want to use the school test analogy you have to compare them properly. When you get a 100% on a test did that really mean you were perfect? NO. It meant that based on the criteria that the teacher scored you on you received all possible points, it does NOT mean that your understanding of the subject matter was perfect because that's just about as achievable as creating the perfect game. The reviewers are doing this the same way-- based on the way in which they score a game, this one in particular scored all possible points in their minds. It's subjective, must like your English essays were, and a perfect score NEVER means you performed perfectly. It simply means you were awarded the full possible points.

The END

Hey Tessian...
Invite me to your Fable II game, I'm going to 'rape your churches and burn your women' (if anyone knows where that quotes from then kudos)

Fine, you're right, I'm a twat for bringing up this argument again. Fuck it. Delete or lock the thread

Bioshock. Yes, 10/10. No, it's not perfect, but goddamn, is it ever close! Mass Effect usually got 9s. That's fine. There were a lot of bugs, the inventory was a real pain in the ass, but the dialogue and story made up for it.

Fable 2 doesn't deserve 10/10. It has some pretty major bugs. If Force Unleashed got 10/10, I'd be pissed, too.

People will forgot these two games. Games like Bioshock are absolute classics. They are in league with Half-Life 1/2, Gears of War, Portal, SMB3, Legend of Zelda 3, etc. Totally absolute and unforgettable classics.

Giving Fable 2 a 10/10 is like giving Super Mario Sunshine a 10/10. It's just a nod to the developer, and not to the game.
