i think i'll just get my CT fix on the SNES in the next month.

Since we talked about it earlier, i've been playing through 7th Saga and am almost ready to beat it again, after that i think i'll fire up CT. SNES RPG's are my favorite, after CT maybe a replay of Mario RPG is in order.

What other SNES RPG's are good? Besides FF2 and 3, i've played those a bazillion times. After 7th Saga, CT, and Mario RPG, i'm not sure i have anything other SNES RPG to play.

EDIT:: In fact, if someone eants to explode this post out as a new topic for best SNES RPG's, that would be great. The decent graphics, relatively simplistic play, and the load speed of cartridges really made the RPG's on the SNES the best RPG era, IMO.

FF6, Earthbound, and Chrono Trigger are the top RPGs, each with fairly large and loyal fan followings who are still quite vocal today. For action adventure with strong RPG elements, the Soul Blazer trilogy (Soul Blazer, Illusion of Time, and Terranigma).

The next tier of RPGs would include Super Mario RPG, Tales of Phantasia, Lufia 2, and Phantasy Star 4. (Maybe FF4 as well, though the GBA remake gets rid of most the flaws of the original title). EVO, Secret of Mana, Robotrek, ActRaiser, and Secret of Evermore are also RPG-like titles which are also ones to look at.

Hopefully they'll give us that and Terranigma on the VC.

Breath of Fire 1 and 2 were pretty solid. If you liked 7th Saga, you may wanna try to find Brainlord. It's the other Enix I'm-gonna-make-you-my-bitch hard game. There's also Soul Blazer from Enix and the Lufia games. But none of these would be cheap to get. Illusion of Gaia is another (was somehow related to Terranigma and one other game, can't remember).

There's also others that we never got here, like Secret of Mana 2, Bahamat Lagoon, Terranigma, etc., that you can get in ROM form. And if you like Earthbound, once the Mother 3 translation is done, I can shoot you off a copy of the translated ROM. I've been anxiously waiting for it and the Policenauts ones to be completed. But I still have to find a copy of the PSX ROM for Policenauts

Bahamut Lagoon is really good if you are willing to play the translated rom. And add to your translated rom list Shin Megami Tensei I and II, they are both translated and really good games. Games like Persona 3 and Devil Summoner, as well as Digital Devil Saga, are spinoff's of these two.

That's right!. Soul Blazer was the other one related to Terranigma and Illusion of Gaia.

It's kinda sad how many of the US release RPGs Seek listed that I own......

Aw hell yeah, EVO? I had that fuckin' game on my SNES when I was like...five. My brother was better at it than I 'cause he's more obsessive, but that game was fun times. I played a ROM of it recently and its really, really fucking hard (and a bit repetative, as basically its just "grind until you grow legs, then grind again until you are a Dinosaur) but for an SNES game it offers SO MUCH customization and, if you really put the effort into it, you can really get some kooky results (like evolving into a Mermaid in the water level or becoming a Deer with Sabertooth fangs in the last area). The plot is nonsensical, but kinda fun. There are tons of flaws with gameplay, but it sucks you into it, and if you have a good controller (I.E. not a bloody keyboard) than its really fun to play.

Robotrek is another Quintet title (the team that did the Soul Blazers).

EVO, while the game is quite flawed in many ways those flaws are SO easy to ignore just based on how fun it is. There isn't a game in existence that I have more fun leveling up in... Essentially you evolve by gaining experience and spending them on new bodyparts which function better or differently than previous body parts. The game was a major inspiration for SPORE, Will Wright acknowledged that (he's good about citing his inspiration unlike most other North American developers). I highly enjoy EVO, it is probably my last or second last game I ever played on an actual SNES system (maybe a year or two ago).

And Zeus, don't worry, I am fairly similar when it comes to SNES titles, I have shoeboxes filled with probably 120-130 different SNES and Genesis titles. I have played through almost all of them, a lot of them multiple times over. Next year will be 20 years since the launch of the Genesis, hard to believe.... When this place started up Chrono Trigger was considered an up to date title =P

Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Terranigma weren't exactly rare, but they developed huge fan followings during the 90's and this decade when emulators became popular and the demand for cartridges is much higher than the supply. The one copy of Terranigma available on Ebay is going for $1200.

Wasn't Terranigma a Euro-only release?

Earthbound became quite rare after the end of the SNES. They just didn't release that many of them and the game's popularity picked up after the fact. It's up there now with Mega Man X3 in terms of rarity

Still, we're talking playing a PAL game on an NTSC system and TV. I've never heard of a converter that does that

The main PAL difference is framerate (one other, but I can't remember). Runs at 29.97 frames/sec vs 24 for NTSC. It's a rough conversion 'cause of that, you basically have to cut out frames to convert. There are lots of region-free DVD players that'll do it, although I think they work like a comp.

I'm not really sure the details, but it ain't a simple thing. Although a computer can do it, so there may be a way for certain things, like DVDs, but maybe other physical media, like cartridges, may be more difficult

We're less than a month away now.

An addition that has been revealed: there will be a multiplayer mode involved. Tied to it is a monster collection/evolution game; along with a new location called the Arena of Ages where tournaments and such will be held with monsters. You will be able to take your monster to different areas and different eras to train him/her how you see fit. New and rare items can be acquired through this new game.
