  • EA has now become the Parent of children who have no parents

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

I think if Blizzard did that they would lose half of their subscriber-base.

I'd go with 2000% of their fanbase since it has to match the usual threats of more people quitting a game than the number of people that actually played.

This couldn't actually fly... you can't bar someone from playing a game they purchased because you said something naughty on a forum. That's like having your car repossessed cause you said mean things to the DMV lady. Does it deserve punishment? Sure, but a punishment relating to the crime.

It's a shame... now the only way I'll play Red Alert 3 is by downloading it... after this and the shit they pulled with Spore I can't support their business model

The first time it happens they get their asses sued off. No way that's how it'll work

They could get away with it purely because the type of person to be affected by this won't really be the type to contact a lawyer for this. A 14 year old kid is more likely to not want to tell his parents that he was being a dick online.

In our pussified society? I'm willing to bet he would

All I can say is, good work EA. I don't see why anyone would be complaining about this; don't you hate bratty online gamers?

Don is right though, usually it's going to be the people who have no intention of buying an EA product anyway who are going to be complaining for the sake of complaining.

Update from Slashdot:
"After a flood of complaints the EA community moderator APOC corrects his statement about how banning you from the forums bans you from your game access as well:"That said, the previous statement I made recently (that's being quoted on the blogs) was inaccurate and a mistake on my part. I had a misunderstanding with regards to our new upcoming forums and website and never meant to infer that if we ban or suspend you on the forums, you would be banned in-game as well. This is not correct, my mistake, my bad."
So it's not true, the guy was just talking out of his ass... or there was so much outcry they decided the best approach would be to pretend he was an idiot who didn't know what he was saying.

EA, we reserve the rights to be assholes; you can't stop us!
