  • Incomprehensible message board users

Another major EQ patch came out and the official boards is once again over how this is the end of EQ. Now I think there isn't a patch in a MMORPG that can't be interpreted as the end of that game, so it's obviously nothing special. But I started noticing that it's the always same 5 guys who are going to cancel their 350000 accounts, for the last 5 years! Now obviously no one will be very surprised if Zeus is still talking about how MS sucks for the next 10 years and I'm guessing he's been doing it for the past 10 years too, but this board is free. The official EQ board requires an active subscription to post.

So this would be like Zeus need to pay some XBox Live service for $15 a month to post on some Microsoft only board, and then proceed to spend the next 10 years paying that monthly fee just to make sure everyone knows MS sucks. That, to me, is incomprehensible. I certainly can't imagine Zeus doing this, or anybody that doesn't have more money than they know what to do with. Obviously people online lie about stuff like canceling accounts, but you can at least get that these guys really don't like this game. Yet they're quite willing to pay $15 a month just for access to a message board that frankly isn't very good to begin with. Even people who love EQ don't have this kind of dedication, as far as I can tell.

But I'm sure SoE really loves guys who will pay $15 a month and then not even play the game, so maybe those guys are good for something after all.

You assume they don't still play the game; I bet they do. They just hate ANY kind of change and feel they need to be the doomsayer, or more likely they're just trolling.

I know plenty of people who will troll for free, but I'm not sure if people will troll for years and years while paying.

To put things in perspective, let's say they nerf Paladins in one patch in WoW. Obviously you'd see people oh no how can you do this to my class, this is the last straw I quit. That's perfectly normal. But if you see the same guy saying that about Paladins EVERY patch for 5 years, it starts to look pretty strange. Now bards in EQ basically say how come we don't get Godmode this patch, fix this or we quit since the game existed, so certainly some people could be doing fine in the game and just like to complain a lot. But some of these guys really strike me as deriving no enjoyment out of the game whatsoever, but inexplicably continues to pay so they can have even more misery, for the sole purpose of being able to post on a message board.

I'm FAAAARR too cheap to pay to give my opinion. If anything, the money flow should be going the other way :-)

As I said, I SERIOUSLY doubt they're not playing the game. It sounds more to me like a bunch of whiners / trolls. They're not paying a subscription to troll, they're paying a subscription to play a game who's forum they happen to enjoy trolling on as well.

I'm sure you're right, but these guys are pretty good at convincing me they really aren't doing anything but paying money for the right to post on a board. Of course when confronted you usually get something like "I have more money than I know what to do with" or "I use a hacked credit card to pay for my subscription" (which would be a pretty sad use for a hacked credit card).
