I prefer the 360 controller's layout over the PS3's controller layout, but the d-pad on the 360 is awful. It angers me just trying to use it for ANYTHING.

I'm gonna try to force myself to get used to the analog stick until my super-controller comes in. I can't use that D-pad either

Don't bother unless you've got a good controller lined up. I can say, without hyperbole, that playing on the 360 controller is a million times worse than Guantanamo Bay and Auschwitz combined.

yeah. I forked over $120 for the original hori stick on ebay only to be emailed a couple days later that they didn't even have it. I have since decided to wait until arcade sticks are more plentiful on the market.

Who missed the boat on this money making opportunity?

I love how survival and time attack add items to the levels backgrounds. that's awesome.

and let me know when the tournametn downoad is up and running so I can make sure I bring my HD over to me neighbors to download the stuff.

have to return it when they get off work in an hour :( Stupid Rings....making me limited on such a ick ass game

It's worth getting, I had the same qualms, but the learning curve isn't really that steep at all. And the movelists for each character are actually very small and reasonable to learn, though pulling them off in combat can be another story.

I personally haven't had any problems with the 360 controller. Obviously the rest of you guys just suck! :D

They hit a pretty good sweet spot with this game, it's probably a must-have in my estimation if you like fighting games at all, and I didn't even think I'd be picking it up. Very fun and still rewarding for neophytes - as usual with games these days though, spend a few hours with it before going online or prepare for Warcraft 3-like humiliation.

Well I played most of the weekend and even entered the gamestop tournament... but lost horribly due to the shitty Gamestop brand Xbox Controller.

I really am having fun with the game, even when I'm getitng my ass kicked. I've decided to take the path less traveled and play Abel, who I really like. I will probably make Ryu my alternate, but I'd like to learn to play as everyone.

All I see to fight online are Ken, Akuma, Sagat... and all those other clones. I was hoping people would use more variety, but oh well.

Anybody have any tips for ex focus canceling?

It's the most frustrating thing in the world for me at the moment, I connect with a super, and tap MP/MK, but I find far too often I let it go too early and just do the normal stupid focus attack, I find that if I hold down MP/MK longer specifically so I make sure to dash by taping forward twice the person I just knocked in the air is already on the ground and the opportunity to chain is totally lost.

Basically:

Special attack->MP/MK->Release Focus attack

or

Special attack->MP/MK->Hold down->Dash forward->Body has already hit the floor.

If I didn't have to tap forward twice I'd have a far easier time =/

I can't even really focus cancel fireballs correctly to move across the screen.

Eric, most of us don't like to get that technical with a fighter, man. Your post is proof that this was made for the hardcore fighting game fan rather than the casual one

No, it's not, Zeus.

I didn't know there were EX-focus moves, but most of the game is REALLY simple. It's really in the style of the original Street Fighter. Most characters have very few special moves and most of the moves are variations on the same thing.

Now, someone who's really good will beat your ass and leave you psychologically scareed, but that's most fighting games. It really is a game you can just pick up and start playing and have fun with. It's not Tekken or Soul Calibur (or Virtua Fighter, king of the technical fighting games) by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah but EX cancels are great for setting up your ultra combos. Jab uppercut with Ryu, EX cancel, Hyper fireball, that's a cool 3/10 of the lifebar :). I don't even wanna get into Sagat's, oh how I have been floored by that guy from an EX cancel.

I've been practicing as Abel, and Sagat is a bitch to deal with. I think Sagat's always been a bitch to deal with for characters without projectile attacks or a wall jump/fireball dasharound - he has fast fireballs, a shoryuken-type move that has priority over air attacks, and has no problem keeping the grappling-heavy characters at a distance until they die.

Might have to switch back to El Fuerte. MY DINNER ISSSS SERVED!!!!

Just play through the challenges, some of them ain't easy. I can get through the first two sets no prob, the third takes a bit of work. Once you get to the 4th and 5th sets, they're requiring some pretty advanced combos and moves strung together. Even the 3rd set requires a decent amount of skill (or even the INSANE speed at which you have to hit kick twice in a row to so Sagat's Fake Kick; I actually thought we were doing it wrong until I found out you had do it in 1/30th of a second).. Nothing super advanced but we're not talking about Killer Instinct here.

I have beaten the game on Normal with a few characters so it's not like I have no experience with it. And I have played many fighters in the past. It's a helluva lot more complex and technical than SF2 or the Alpha\Vs games. Or most fighters for that matter.

The 3rd set does not take a bit of work, it shouldn't take you longer then 5 minutes tops, unless we're saying 5 minutes is a bit of work. It's nothing but normal hit->special attack for almost all chars.

The 4th set can be tricky but again they're basic 2-hit combos with a special attack or super attack tacted on, jump in medium kick to medium punch to uppercut is not terribly difficult. Everybody and their mother has been using jump in roundhouse kick roundhouse sweep since SF2 first hit arcades, changing those 2 buttons to something else and taking on a super move again, is not hard to master -_-

The 5th sets are all about timing, and not about speed at all. >_<

Watching the trials performed can help a lot. Sometimes it's not as easy as just putting the inputs in, it can be a timing issue or something you'd never think of (Chun's jump in HP,HP then jump AGAIN to combo three dMK headstomps).

I had HUGE problems with sakura's, but after lots and lots and lots of patience I finally was able to get the timing down for them. Using the 360 controller does not assist my frustrations with the game. I put in an order for a hori 360 arcade stick on amazon, since my arcade stick budget was not enormous. Now the waiting game begins.

I play every few nights with Cammy and I'm alright, but no pro by any means. The hunt for a TE stick or fightpad continues here. I can't even see being able to buy one at retail price until May at least. Before the shipment of more units this month, people had been trying to sell their PRE-ORDERS for TE sticks on ebay for $600.

I'm a Cammy player.

I actually got a fightpad for 39.99 off Amazon, good luck on the stick though. Madcatz is supposed to get some in at the end of the month...

I've learned to do Tiger-Knee esque Cannon Spikes which are basically Cannon Spikes 1 inch off the ground, which are pretty awesome for chaining just about anything.

It becomes painfully obvious that Cammy has some issues at the higher brackets.

Can't juggle into ultra
Moves aren't safe
Bad normals
Hooligan throw doesn't work on crouched opponents

Meanwhile you have chars like Zangief and Sagat which are literally the gods of the game, and of course it's Capcom so you know there won't be any kind of balancing patch, we'll have to sit through 3-4 reiterations of the game just to get some semblance of balance.

Turtling in general is a pretty strong/cheese tactic if your character can support it.

Sagat is the king of turtles, trying to get close is damn near impossible, and even if you do it's not like he's helpless once you're in there.

Zangief is the opposite, turtling works against him, but he has to get in close, at that same time once he's in there, you're really fucked, so many of his attacks go through just about everything. Hell you can get through the hardest arcade difficulty spamming 3x Punch, now imagine playing an experienced player who knows what goes through who's special abilities. -_-

Edit: 2nd half of my post isn't a Cammy perspective, just a perspective in general, join the win train today and start using Sagat and you can see it pretty clearly.

You would think that with the smaller amount of characters (compared to, say, the MvC series) that they could learn how to balance characters. But then again, Capcom couldn't balance a paper bag on their head.
