I was thinking the same thing. They don't have a bacon cheeseburger. At least not at the ones around here.

It was one of those new sandwiches that they put on trial periods every once in awhile, maybe about seven years ago. It was a temporary thing. Both of the items in question were.

This may explain why the guy behind the counter looked so befuddled when I pointed out the bright and shiny advertising on his menu board proselytizing for the chicken sandwich in the first place. He had this expression like "what the fuck, why doesn't anyone tell me when we start selling a chicken club sandwich and a bacon cheeseburger now".

Basically, they had some chicken club and some bacon cheeseburger as these trial product specials, and I asked for the chicken club, and the guy got befuddled and asked his manager if the chicken sandwich was the same as the bacon cheeseburger, at which point (and this is really what kills me) the manager goes "Yes" and the dude disappears into the back, comes back with the bacon cheeseburger.

I opened it up and pointed at the beef patty and went "this isn't chicken" and he got the same expression as he had when confronted with the existence of the menu board advertising the chicken club sandwich in the first place - which is to say, frustrated, angry befuddlement.

At that point, I kind of figured, how much harder do I really want to work to eat a chicken sandwich instead of a bacon cheeseburger? And just offered to eat the damn thing anyway. It was pretty tasty, actually.
