Quicktime support on Windows has always been suspect. It used to crash both IE and Firefox on a regular basis. Here's a YouTube link (click on the HD button if your processor/bandwidth can take it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0xaCB2nLS0&

I'm surprised at how much I want to see it.
J.J. Abrahms is the "brains" behind it.

Affect your desire at all?
For me, it enhances it. Cloverfield was awesome and the few episodes of Lost that i have seen have been done very well. The moods, lighting, and use of music of his works fit with what i like.

No, although I had to look him up. My desire to see it is based on what I've seen - granted, what I've seen is marketing hype, finely tuned montages meant to show it in the most favorable way possible. But I have no problem being a sucker for a good trailer. When I initially heard about a series reboot, I didn't care, because I felt everything that could be done with Star Trek had been done. Even if that's the case, there's value in doing it well, which they haven't done for a long time.

That works.

This movie looks to be entertaining.

What's the plot anyway? Is this just an origin story for Kirk? It sounded like in the trailer he was already a Legend but obviously he's just signing up for the job based on the beginning. Little confused.

And, surprisingly, that's Eric Bana as (what looks like) the villain. And Bruce Greenwood is underutilized.

I agree completely on the reboot requirement. I thought it was a great idea and that the entire series was stale. I actually liked Enterprise and hoped it continued but people just didn't accept it.

The problem I have is with who's doing it. This is the man who brought us Alias, Lost, Armageddon, amongst other things. Needless to say, his pedigree isn't exactly something to be proud of. He's almost like Bay-lite and if there's one thing you can give Bay, his movies look awesome. That sure as hell don't mean they are awesome.

So I'm very, very hesitant on how good of a movie it's going to be. It's not like we're talking about Nolan or Snyder doing the reboot, this is freakin' J.J. Abrahms. I hope to hell I'm wrong but history tells me there's a greater chance that my skepticism will be justified.

To me, the only thing Abrahms could possibly enhance would be the potency of the aroma of my fecal matter. I'm praying this film will be good in spite of Abrahms rather than because of him.

Isn't Kirk supposed to be a legendary in the academy or something? I think they actually mentioned that in the original series. I going off of memory here so I could be wrong but I thought that's what I read when the previews first came out. But I do remember it being in his early days as a commander, much before what he was in the original series. He's supposed to be a lot more raw and rough around the edges. Kinda like Bond in Casino Royale.

I haven't seen the trailer. I was referring to stuff from a few months ago that I read

Try Opera, it runs perfectly on it (probably Safari as well, but I haven't tried it).

Oh, and I am also looking very forward to this movie. I don't know a lot about Abrahms, but I have heard only good stuff about him (barring Zeus's comments). For the record though, look at what Peter Jackson did before Lord of the Rings, Or Guillermo aside from Pan's Labyrinth, etc...

Let's look then:

Peter Jackson

Meet the Feebles
Frighteners
Heavenly Creatures

Frighteners was actually a decent horror flick. Meet the Feebles was generic. Never saw Heavenly Creatures

Guillermo Del Toro

Mimic
Blade 2
Hellboy

Mimic was a very generic horror flick and Blade 2 was decent. Hellboy was great

Nothing there to make you say "dear God, he has a horrible history like Bay, he's gonna make it shit". Abrahms, on the other hand, has consistently made garbage.

Well, maybe Zeus has something to worry about, but I like everything Abrams has done that I've seen, so I'm not worried. Like someone else said, his name adds weight as to why I am excited about the movie.

My wife was a big TNG fan growing up (I never liked the shows other than Enterprise and only liked a couple of the films) and loved Voyageur and Deep Space (Sixty)Nine. She loves the series and was excited to see this trailer so I showed it to her. The exact words that came out of her mouth were:

"Oh my God. This looks gay"

That trailer was far, far worse than I ever could have possibly imagined. Thank God I don't have to waste money to take my wife to the theatre to see it like I did with The Crappening. The skepticism just doubled.

And Flip, after watching the trailer I can see what you were referring to. Definitely was his dad.

Kup, I pray for you that this trailer was not an example of the "most favourable way possible" but rather the exact opposite. You'd better hope that the rest of the film is far, far better than what was shown there (kinda like The Princess Bride or Solaris trailers that were just horrible). I'm hoping for your sake that this was one of those trailers that was done to appeal to a 15-year by a marketer who doesn't know anything about the film at all.

If you could imagine me acting like Jack Black from High Fidelity, where they are playing the mixtape and saying almost ashamed "It's really fucking good", yeah, that's how I feel.

Dammit, why can't this movie suck like the others?!

The reason you forgot is because you know that I don't, you're just following the crowd. I just don't fall for hype and insist on substance over style in my movies. You and I actually agree quite often (Resident Evil and Titanic are the exceptions). I even admitted that the trailer LOOKED good aesthetically.
