you unlock the alien hominid character in castle crashers if you buy the game. Does this make you want it more?

It's $5. If I didn't already own it for the GC (and I paid for Gold) even I'd pick it up. We're not talking a Braid-like fleecing here (ironically, it's probably longer than Braid, too)
