  • Memory cards now unlocked on the Wii + 32GB SD card support

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

So now instead of just a storage location you can click on the SD channel on the Wii system and access the channels saved on the card as though it were another Wii internal drive.

It's about time. I have a lot of applications stored on card. Now I don't have to worry about getting as many titles as I wish to play =)

Edit: I played around with it; works very smoothly. I've also discovered that up to 32GB SD memory cards are now supported.

What about accessing the card from inside a game? Will games be able to use that feature now? That was a big annoyance for me.

I think it is up to the developer for that. Endless Ocean uses the memory card to access mp3 music, for example.

As far as I know this only adds space for more channels.

Does this apply to VC games, or is that a completely different issue?

VC and WiiWare titles (along with other channels) can now essentially be placed on an SD card and directly accessed from there. Previously they had to be copied back to the internal drive.

One more thing; the Wii now supports up to 32GB SD memory cards. Somewhat a bit of overkill I think. Unless they plan to release bigger games.

With the new Virtual Console Arcade stuff, it could possibly get quite big depending on if they start bringing out newer arcade stuff.

Don't the WiiWare stuff run at a max of 50MB? I guess if you're a heavy user you COULD need the 32GB cards

I'm not talking WiiWare. Virtual Console Arcade is a new aspect of the Virtual Console. Its arcade games. Newer ones are rather large.

Direct competition to the XBLA, huh? I'll have to check that out.

I think the next WiiWare game I'll get is the FF4 sequel. They'd better not make it $15

Its Square, I wouldn't be surprised

$15 would be a deal. The cell phone version costs 1700 yen which is the equivilent to 17.50 USD.

Even $17.50 USD sounds like a steal to me. If I had a limit on how much I would spend on the game, it would probably be in the range of $30-35.
