<div style='font: bold 9pt ; text-align: left; '>a development position working with PDA/desktop applications. I'm going to go for that one and see if I can get the job. I am currently assigned to work with the woman who is going to be in charge and she loves me. The apps on the desktop and PDA are currently running with VB, but they are trying to begin a port to VB .Net for the desktop and C# for the PDA. That'd be such an awesome job. I'm hoping it works out. I told the woman in charge that I was interested.</div>

<div style='font: ; text-align: left; '>...in China!

Seems the cost of one developer here can net you 5 or 6 very good ones over there. We're still a small startup, so they can't really get rid of any developers here...yet. I'll have to play my cards right and position myself up the ladder...

<div style='font: ; text-align: left; '>though I started back as part time for a few months.(it's the same company that laid me off). For a while I was working a two development jobs (one full time, on part time, but one was only contract). I switched back to full time at this job and dropped the contract job last March.

In the near future, developers here should not be affected. But if I am to remain unscathed, I would have to take on more of a design and architecture role, along with project management, which I'm already doing. I guess the idea is that we'd be the think tank, and China would do most of the grunt work.

As far as the effectiveness of outsourcing, at the development level, it's rather gray. The upper-ups only see the 6 to 1 ratio in personnel costs, not how the overhead will affect the quality of the work.

<div style='font: 12pt Arial; text-align: left; '>There are a few chinese contractors where I work, but a majority of the people on my floor are indian (at least 65%) and are mainly contractors "fresh off the boat" from India. (I myself am an employee)</div>
