Yeah? I was hoping it would be good. I still feel like it looks like a teen movie with all the action and young actors. I want it to be good though. Maybe we'll go see it this weekend.

I just saw it too, also loved it. I am planning on seeing it again in the next week or two. I don't think I have enjoyed a blockbuster this much since Lord of the Rings. Easily the best movie of its type. All the cast did excellently.

Definitely lookin' forward to Up. Pixar has yet to disappoint. I pray Terminator turns out to be as good as it should be. McG doesn't exactly inspire a ton of confidence but at the same time, he doesn't induce uncontrollable vomiting like others, either. It was a pretty good movie. I didn't like the inclusion of the really hammy throwbacks for the characters, or the over-comical Scotty. That scene where he was transported into those water pipes was highly unnecessary. Also, the villain was lame and forgettable.
Other than that I thought it was a really cool, stylish reboot for the series. I enjoyed all the character, especially Kirk. He was so amazingly brazen all the time and just his interactions with any other character really warmed me up to him. They even threw a red-shirt in there during the first away mission/space jump.
The real big question I found myself with after watching the movie was how old-spock was going to factor into the universe. Vulcans have a pretty great memory, so he alone could probably advance their technology vastly since he's from the future. They showed him giving the trans-warp teleportation equation, but they didn't address this problem directly.
Bovine liked this movie and gives it a 7/10.

I thought he was on par with most of the Star Trek villains, but no Borg Queen, Khan, or General Chang (even though he copied his hair style). I still found his scenes to be mostly entertaining; but there weren't many scenes he was in overall.
I liked Scotty as well, but Checkov made me laugh more.

I really liked it but it had its flaws. It was too short. Some of the interactions and backstory could have been expanded. What the hell was up with that thing with Uruha and Spock?
Also, cliches. How many times are we going to see black holes used as time travel? The red shirt thing was pretty stupid, actually.
Hell, cameos and old school lines getting repeated is cliche now, since every movie is a remake of something 20 years ago. (Star Trek, Transformers, GI Joe, etc., etc., etc.) Ha ha, Bones said a "Dammit I'm a doctor" line. Very funny, except I was expecting that, so it wasn't funny. It's almost like they need to get that out of their system so that they can move on to the actual plot.
Overall, the characters were good, and it was the best part of the movie. Karl Urban actually pulled out a convincing Bones. Kirk seemed like a brash and brazen character, like bovine said. Spock was really good, too.
But, the movie was good like Transformers was good: yes, the movie is worth watching, but it's still a fucking Michael Bay film.

so uh, why bother drilling a hole to the planet when you have an ample supply of all that red matter? And Spock didn't need to drill a hole into the supernova for the red matter ignited black hole to consume it. All's I'm saying is, Nero could have technically destroyed the planet Earth at any time.
Aside from that nitpick (among others), I really enjoyed the movie as well. I guess I can live with sacrificing scientific pseudo mumbo jumbo for more action, at least in movie form. Not sure how I feel about changing the timeline and potentially negating the storylines of everything that comes after.

Due to the sheer volume of good reviews (96% fresh as of right now), my bud was able to convince me to go see this next weekend. We made a deal where he'll come see Terminator with me if it hits 80%+ on Rotten Tomatoes with 125+ reviews if I went to see this one with him. This is J.J. Abrahms' last chance to redeem himself IMO. If after all these amazing reviews the movie still sucks, I ain't ever watching anything by him again.

I loved it. I was really concerned about it being a teen movie, but it was a lot of fun. It had a little more humor in it that I anticipated, and there were parts that have been mentioned in the spoiler posts that made me a little uneasy with the whole movie, but overall I really really enjoyed the movie. I could definitely watch it again!

One thing I would recommend is find a comic shop and pick up the newly released trade of the star trek countdown miniseries. it's not necessary to enjoy the movie but it makes a damn good movie even better as it gives more backstory into nero and nemoy. and leads driectly into the new flick. I'd recommend it to anyone. Captain Data of the Star Ship Enterprise is awesome.

Truth be told, Star Trek was fantastic. It was so fantastic and action-packed that I really don't know how they'd actually be able to top it in a sequel, because its friggin' epic!
