Is it just me, or is there a particularly unique kind of pain that comes from being hit in the balls?

Apparently I must have gottten punched in the family coat of arms some time today (not wearing a cup) and didn't even notice it until I got home.

But oh, do I notice now. Do I ever notice. I will be bringing my cup from now on.

Seraphina, Sassafrass, if you click on this link, I apologize, the question is probably intended not for you.

I think this applies to most sports, really. I took some soccer balls to the groin before.

But yes, it's a unique kind of pain. It's almost nauseating. I went without a cup for a long time, but now that I spar more often, I just wear it all the time so that I'm accustomed to it when I do need it. Although having a cup makes armbars easier to do.

That's your fault for playing soccer instead of a manly sport. It's nice to see you've learned the error of your ways, Leonodis :-)

Yeah, it's the fact that you not only feel like you've been stabbed in your abdomen with a large, rusty knife, your stomach starts churning and you feel like you're going to throw up.

I'm sure anyone who's played practically any sport involving contact or some form of tool has unfortunately experienced that excruciating pain. If you ever hear of anyone complain about how a jock is uncomfortable, you know they've never experienced it and their time is nigh.

my gf once joked about kicking me in the nads... I told her there are very few things she could possibly do to have me break up with her on the spot, but that was one of them.

Haven't had that happen in a long time, but it hurts just thinking about someone else having that happen to them... ughh

:werd: again

I completely agree about the rusty knife...that is the best description i've heard for how I felt yesterday after I got home and unloosened the drawstring on my trunks. It felt like my balls had tetanus.

That is why we are all familiar with seeing a stadium of anywhere from 3,000 to 300,000 people cringe in 50% unison whenever some pro sports player takes a good one to the Jacobins. :)

Baseball to the balls, basketball rebound elbow in the breadbasket, tackle headbutt to your bait and tackle, body blow gone wrong, tennis serve that serves you...the manifestations are legion.

The winking smiley should show I'm kidding :P Luckily we have a pubic bone that protects a lot of that area, but you can get pretty sore there around "that time of the month". I'm sure it's nothing near what you guys experience though. Although, I'll take the pain of a kick in the nuts if you take childbirth ;)

A ball tap is far more painful than just a blunt impact to the balls. This is fact.

(Note: A ball tap being not a direct PUNCH to the balls, but rather an almost light flicking motion that impacts the crotch region. It is more painful because, like karate teaches you, it is far more painful to execute a controlled strike than a heavy, leaned into punch. A punch is basically just pushing somebody really hard. A strike is an attack.)

You and your physics....... :-)

I think what he means is a focused impact of the finger flick directly to the most sensitive area as opposed to the greater force of a larger object, such as a punch or softball, hitting you much harder but the less sensitive areas taking the vast majority of the brunt. It actually does make sense if you think of it that way.

If you think a punch is just like being pushed really hard, is incapable of being "controlled" and is somehow not a "strike," then you've never been punched by someone who knows how to.

I'd rather be finger flicked in the groin 100 times than punched once by any of the people I train with.

Two things, a punch is a strike. It would only be a push if you were in contact with the person, and pushed them with your fist. There is impact from a punch. If the person executing has trained in Karate then expect that the punch is going to hurt a lot; Karate is, at its core, about perfecting the efficiency power of a strike.

Again, it depends on where you're punched. If someone goes directly for the groin area as opposed to straight for the veges, there's a pretty solid chance they will be spared the vast majority of the brunt.

Of course, skilled and extremely strong blunt force can overcome such a discrepancy, no doubt. All I was saying is there is SOME merit to what he said

I got ball tapped while working the door at the bar I work at a couple months back. I hardly ever get extremely angry. I don't think I've ever moved from completely cool to being so mad I've hit someone with all my strength but I shoved that motherfucker out of the place.

But no one has ever actually hit me in the balls full force before (fist/foot/etc.) but I did get a huge door opened onto them once. Not cool.

Speaking of getting hit in the balls full force...

A few years ago, I was hanging out with a bunch of friends. One of the guys hadn't hung out with us in a while and he decided to start up a game of "rap-a-nut" (where you go around and smack people in their junk). None of us were thrilled. At one point, he swung his arm from above his head and smacked my friend Mark in his nuts so hard that Mark fell to the ground. Well, Mark's brother wasn't cool with that so he nonchalantly strolled over next to the other guy, dropped to one knee, and uppercutted him in the nads. The other guy jumped backward into the wall and slid down. His face was white. It was pretty funny because he deserved it. :)

Actually, it's all fake, according to Wikipedia. She actually doesn't know any martial arts.

I didn't realize that Bruce Lee used a modified version of Wing Chun.

We just learned the basics and how to punch.

That's kinda funny considering how tense he punches. Wing Chun is partly about relaxed hitting for maximum impact and movement.

I got a big kick out of Taekwondo since I had a friend in high school who was supposedly a black belt... He was probably lying and he definitely didn't practice for years because there was one time I pissed him off and he tried to trip me for something like a minute and he utterly failed. I did have a fairly significant height (6-8 inches)/weight advantage (~75lbs). Still hilarious.

TKD blackbelts are a dime a dozen; it has evolving methods, so there's a large gap in skill for what "TKD blackbelt" actually means. It is also an olympic sport; which would explain its popularity. Kyokushin Karate was popular in the 70's and 80's, Dolph Lundgren practiced Kyokushin; GSP in the UFC is also a practitioner. It is less popular now because other martial arts became more popular.

I'm a love not a fighter. 8)

Only thing I know about fighting is to always protect the jewels, even the largest of men can be brought to their knees from a direct blow.
