  • Final Fantasy 4 sequel now available

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

I have yet to play it, but I have downloaded it off of WiiWare. This is one I have been waiting for, for quite a while. Unfortunately, FF6 didn't didn't leave itself open for a convincing sequel; but FF4 was wide open for one.

Some info:
-Game length of part 1 is approximately 40-50% the length of the original SNES title. It is a fairly interesting story that I think many fans of the original would like.
-Part 1 is 8 bucks: additional parts are each 3 bucks each and can be purchased through the first game. By the looks of it, each part is like an episode of a series; it has its own story, but fits into a larger plotline.
-Many areas are familiar, but there are places that can be explored that were not available before; ie. There is now a pass between Mist village and Kaipo desert. Monster distribution is different.
-There are some additions to the existing gameplay; the moon cycle has an effect on monsters and their abilities.

Overall, I enjoyed the game. While you don't have to play the original, it is a giant help. There are many references to the original game to e plain the political climate of the current game. It's kind of funny playing this game 18 years later, considering the game takes place 18 years later.

Here's an IGN review of the game

http://wii.ign.com/articles/995/995474p1.html

Basically, the first download is 3 of the 9 eps (totalling 6 or so hours) with the rest coming throughout the next 3 months at 300 points each, including a final, concluding chapter. So the entire game will cost 2600 points for what should be about 20-25 hours.

And apparently it's a real fan service to those who played (and likely loved) the original. Not something you want to play if you haven't played the SNES, GBA, or DS version of the game

Rydia's quest is a lot of fun too. Another adventure in the Underworld (without spoiling too much). I am not through it yet, but so far I am having considerable fun. There are certain additions to the main cast in this chapter that make things interesting. I am finding this section very enjoyable to say the least.

So far I am finding this game to be loads of fun. I am very glad it exists. Even if it is 15 years late =P

actually it is probably better I played it now. I didn't like the issues with the original game and it brought the experience way down for me. Later versions fixed everything and I found the game very enjoyable. So this one is a true gift. I don't think the original is necessary to play, it is a good game on its own; it would help for the back story and to give greater significance to certain events. I think everyone here played FF4 though.
