First thought: Why would I care what Kevin Smith has to say? He hasn't made a movie I've liked in years.

Reaction after listening to him talk: Now I feel bad.

(This is, in fact, hilarious.)

Edit: How can a man this funny make Dogma? Maybe I should give Zack and Miri a shot.

Edit edit: His views on Twilight (no, it's not negative). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQ6W7wzTY0o Highlarious.

How can you not like Dogma? It's my favorite Kevin Smith movie.

Dogma had it's moments, but overall I felt it was an example of "trying too hard."

Dogma is Smith's best film, just ahead of Mallrats. On the bottom of the pile is Chasing Amy with Clerks right on top of it

Clerks was good as an "indie film", though it couldn't hold up to the standards of a normal film today. Mallrats was the worst one I've seen, though Jersey Girl ended up taking the title when it was made. I think most people agree with that last statement. (But, you're Zeus, so you're weird about that shit...)

Chasing Amy somewhat tried too hard (especially the ending), but it still ended up being a good movie. I don't think Dogma tried too hard at all, however. It achieved its goal of providing fucked up religious theories entangled in a hilarious storyline. (Come on... Loki was fucking brilliant in that movie.)

Chasing Amy is outstanding. I even like Mall Rats.

Honestly, I enjoy all of Kevin Smith's films (except Jersey Girl), it'd be hard to pick one I didn't actually like. However, I've only seen Zack and Miri once, and I suspect it won't hold up as good on repeat viewings, hence my delay in purchasing the DVD, despite Smith DVDs being overloaded with content.

Clerks I like a lot, it is a highly unique film that strongly brings forward the spirit of the 90's. I find this is my favourite movie to have on while drinking.

Chasing Amy is another movie of his that I find I can watch a lot of, again, another unique 90's feeling movie. It's my favourite, I liked its serious focus on more mature subject matter, such as the disruption that "love" can cause in a friendship, and how things can be made ideal for everyone; the different takes each of the very unique characters had on the situations, and experiences that went along with them.

Dogma was a movie that I somewhat liked but, unlike Clerks and Chasing Amy, I doubt I could sit through more than once a year or two; let alone multiple times in a month; Chasing Amy and Clerks are easy movies to rewatch. I agree with Kupek in that they tried too hard to make a mainstream appealing movie here. It ended up feeling like a Live Action A-rated version of Ducktales that attempts to be controversial. Yeah the Damon parts were good, but you can't base a 2 hour+ movie on 6-8 minutes of Damon scenes.

I guess that means everyone on the planet, except you, is wrong; including Kevin Smith himself.

Dogma is one long exposition. With the exception of Jay and Silent Bob, just about every character who talks to the protagonist is explaining story. I do think the boardroom execution scene is hilarious, though.

In the special features on the DVD, there's about an hour more of that in deleted scenes.

Chasing Amy was indeed a fine film.
