Ever since I was in high school, if I had a moment where nothing was going on during the day or if I was out with friends and there was a lull or anything like that, my mind would suddenly wander to this thought:

Will I remember this moment 5 years from now? 10 years from now? Will I remember how I felt doing what I'm doing? Will I even remember I did it?

It happened to me a couple of times in the last few days and as I am now getting closer to 30, it made me realize how fast life goes by. Things are happening and then even a couple of days later, I can't even remember what I was thinking or feeling at that previous moment. It made me sad to think that I was letting these simple memories just vanish.

So I had an idea that I am going to put into practice. I haven't thought of a good name for it yet, but the idea is that I carry a small notebook with me at all times (this isn't too hard cuz I always have my bag). Then, whenever these thoughts occur to me, I make a quick note about it. My goal will be to make them no more than a few sentences. They'll detail whatever I think is important at that moment. Also, I won't do more than one a day unless I think it's absolutely necessary.

I think it'll be interesting to go back and read them a year from now. And it's less involvement than a full-scale journal. I'm viewing it as an experiment. We'll see how it goes. :)

I do the exact same thing actually. My recommendation is getting a smartphone which has an easily accessible notepad feature (the iPhone has a native notepad and calendar app which makes this sort of stuff easy). I find that I generally never part from my phone, so I always know where my notepad is; plus you can sync it to to your computer and transfer files back and forth, or to online storage very very painlessly.

I do have a Smartphone with a notepad, but I don't like typing on it that much if I don't have to. There's something different about using a real notepad. :)
