  • Virtual Console: Original Castlevania Rondo of Blood

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Coming soon to North America and Europe. Castlevania: Rondo of Blood for the TG16 CD is considered to be the top game in the series by a good number of fans. It is already available in Japan. Hopefully it will be available, here, soon into the New Year.

Symphony and any of the DS games trump it by now. The original Rondo, a remake of the game, and Symphony can all be had in the Dracula X Chronicles for PSP ($15).

The game was fucking amazing back in the day and the PSP remake is even better and is everything you'd want in a remake. That would be by far the best version to have but if you don't have a PSP, this one is worth it. It's an excellent platformer Castlevania

It's a matter of opinion. Rondo has a different focus than the new series, it is probably closest to Castlevania 3. Rondo's focus is on action, skill, and getting through the levels filled with enemies and traps; All of the new series games focus on building up levels and inventory to be powerful enough to defeat the bosses.

I like the laid-back style of RPG-ish Castelvania better (like SotN). Not the go-go-go, dodge, jump, swing fast-paced, no room for error style of the older Catelvania games. Raises my blood pressure.

Rondo looked better, but I always thought Super Castlevania was the best traditional platformer in the series, mainly because Simon can swing his whip in 8 different directions, whereas the other Belmonts always had a problem learning that particular trick.

Yeah, you wonder why they never included it in other games. I guess it made them too easy?

In terms of level design and depth, Rondo still takes the cake IMO. Particularly the PSP version

My dream Castlevania game would be Dracula's Curse with the 8 direction whip and maybe some cool upgrades for Grant, Alucard, and Sypha.
