24 took the necessary route towards a major in Season 7 (Jack wasn't in control anymore, more like a pawn, and it moved to DC from LA) and it looks like they're moving even further away from the CTU days in Season 8 with Jack being essentially a mercenary who doesn't work for anyone (or takes money; he does "what's necessary")

These writers have kept it together longer than I though they could. I'm looking forward to another (hopefully) strong season

You know, I bought Seasons 1-4 for my brother for his Birthday/Christmas, and I've never actually watched it.

Seasons 1-4 are the best ones, imo. The last season was pretty good, but the first few were just awesome.

Yeah, they are the best with 4 being the pinnacle. But these writers did a very good job of not laming it up in 5 and 6 with the same formula and made some nice changes to 7 to keep it fresh. It always stayed good and looks like it may be changing to get even better. It's worth watching all 7 seasons

The main reasoning I have behind watching this show, now, is watching Sutherland do bad ass shit. Which is actually much more enjoyable then one would think. Season one is still one of the best seasons of any show I've ever seen. It was good enough that for a few years after it my parents and I had a winter break tradition of marathoning the series over the course of a week or two.

Speaking of bad ass shit did you see this weeks episode? Yowza. This is what the series needs more of. Bauer improvising and smart writing.
