My opinion: and this goes completely against my feelings on her music for the past 3 or 4 years. Beyonce. Mostly for her song Sweet Dream (Beautiful Nightmare) which was released as a single this year. The haunting electro-pop tone of the song has a very nice early 80's vibe to it (several other bands attempted it this year, but somehow sounded like crap). She also started covering Alanis Morrisette, I am not sure if this was Canada only, or all over. You Oughta Know (Alanis Morrisette cover). She's come a long way from being a depressed teen at the beginning of the decade to becoming the best argument as the overall top female act of the decade.

Lady Gaga was fairly interesting this past year too, but I tend to only like the chorus's of her songs and her theatrics. I also really liked Metric's Gimme Sympathy and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's Heads will roll.
