  • FFVII Remake not happening :<

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

That's the point I've made in the past: a modern remake of FF7 would be just as expensive as making a new FF. They wouldn't be able to resuse anything; everything would have to be built from scratch. There wouldn't be anything "quick" about it.

Damnit Kupek, you take your logic and reason and you go back in your hole! BACK I SAY!

I stand by my earlier point. A remake doesn't necessarilly have to mean overpriced FF13 style graphics - that doesn't really benefit the game a whole lot. What it needs is a 3D character and environment upgrade (essentially just the outdoor environment which is FULL of pop-up), keep all the 2D art (perhaps touch it up, and replace locations that were problemsome and had the characters displaying as pinpoints, or with difficult to navigate areas), and add in all the various advancements that recent DS FF upgrades have received. Release it to DSi (I think the DSi cartridge tech is enough to handle FF7 now; unless capacity is still limited to 512MB/4Gb) or whatever the next big handheld is.

Sony is already long overdue for a new handheld system if they choose to continue in the hardware market. A new DS or Gameboy system is likely not too far over the horizon either (if DSi cards are inadequate).

The DS isn't the system you want to do for 3D games, most of them look blocky and pretty bad. -_-

Seriously? The PSP has the power of a PS1, if not more so. I dont think they have any new handheld on the horizon, nor is it needed. Assassin's Creed and some of the newer games blow you away on the PSP. Its amazing they look so good and run as smooth.

What they need are more PS1 classics on the PSNetwork.

The PSP is far more appropriate than the DS for a FF7 remake, but it still wouldn't be quick or cheap. They could use the engine from Crisis Core, but they'd still have to make many new models and art, including the cut scenes. Gamers would not accept the visual inconsistency that FF7 has in a full-priced game. (And I doubt the creators would be satisfied with it.)

PSP is dead/irrelevant outside of Japan; FF7 was a fairly major product outside of Japan. Most likely it would be DSi or PSP2.

FF producers have said the same thing I did:
No, Square Enix isn't working on a Final Fantasy VII remake right now. They apparently have their reasons for ignoring a potential mountain of cash though, starting with this one -- it would be hard to make.

...

Kitase added that this same problem applies to any potential Final Fantasy VII remake, "It is very hard to make games on PlayStation 3 in the same style as the games in that era had. Making graphics will take enormous time."
