Open Betas are generally at the 95% complete stage and are immediately followed up by a full release. If it was working, there was no point to turning down the trial. Besides, this was about 3 years too late. Nintendo should have done this from the beginning.

I wasn't talking about their financial state. In fact, their financial state has made them lazy. They think they can focus on the casual gamers and new devices, and not worry about the rest of the platform. Meanwhile, XBL and PSN has made a ton of cash that Nintendo could have gotten in on.
Just because you're profitable doesn't mean you can't be more profitable.
