  • 2 Player Co-op games on one Xbox

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

A couple months ago I somehow inadvertently got my girlfriend hooked on Modern Warfare 2 and now in gaming in general. We have really enjoyed playing Special Ops together but there's only so many missions on it so it's getting a bit old. I've found most games don't allow split screen multiplayer even if both players have XBL gold accounts so I'm looking for suggestions-- Can anyone recommend some decent games that can be played with 2 people split screen on one Xbox? We've run the whole Rock Band / Guitar Hero thing to death too so at this point we're looking for other games we can play together that won't force me to get a 2nd Xbox and another copy of the game.

When playing Magic, aren't the cards-in-hand private? (I actually looked this up, but couldn't find an answer; I guess the question is too basic.) How is that implemented?

when you are playing locally, you play 2v2 with each team sharing a lifebar. So, when playing locally, you see the other player's cards because you are on the same team and share the same life.

Earth Defense Force 2017. This game is super cheap (was a $20 launch window title) and is relatively basic but amazingly fun to play. Mindless action with a dash of strategy thrown in, it's freakin' awesome.

As for others, if she likes CoD try the Halo games and Gears 1 and 2 are spectacular co-op games; RE5 actually has an excellent co-op system and it's chapter based, so you can easily play for 30 minutes at a time if you'd like; the Left 4 Dead games are incredible co-op; Marvel Ultimate Alliance is pretty cheap now and a great Double Dragon-like game; the Scene It games are great distractions that you can get non-gamers to play as well (4 at a time); and there's always the arcade compilations (Xbox Live Unplugged, Xbox Arcade, Namco Virtual Museum, and Sonic Collection) which have some two-player games but are fun to also switch back and forth.

I originally started her off on GoW but she didn't take to it, but that was a long time ago now she's actually decent at FPS so maybe I'll give it another try. Halo 3 we tried before too but I think it's too Sci-fi-ish for her.

RE5 might give that a try... it's cheap but there's a gold edition too. L4D would be awesome but I bought that for PC, would have to see if her PC can handle it but it's got a pretty standard video card so I doubt it. Magic... way too fantasy for her. We tried Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, she didn't enjoy it... too easy and the controls were anti-lefty. Plus split screen was vertically split which was squished and disorienting.

Don't forget about EDF. If you find it, it'll be under $15 used and you'll be shocked at how awesome it is

Gears is a little different than an FPS. Maybe she don't like that kind of thing?

Yeah, it's fun, but not $15 fun. $7 yes, $15 no

Braid and Winterbottom and World of Goo. Sure, they're not two player, but they are puzzle games you can trade off back and forth with.

I think CC is worth $15. There's a lot of replay there if you want to unlock secret characters and find all the weapons/animals.

Would you pay $100 for the Chrono Trigger cart?

This is the same guy who made Alien Hominid, a nearly unplayable game. No thanks.

I disliked Alien Hominid for the very fact that it was a struggle to play and extremely repetitive. But Castle Crashers ain't Alien Hominid, it's pretty fun.
