Yeah it's a pretty nasty f' up for them to make... completely hoses the boxes apparently in an infinite reboot loop. Luckily our company hadn't gotten to that DAT version yet today so we weren't impacted.

Yeah don't most major companies go through testing phases before they do a company-wide upgrade for this type of thing?

This was the equivalent of a virus definition update to the clients that was sent to the management servers and then deployed from there so, in a sense, no testing was needed as this update was sent as a definition update and not an update to the client scan engine or some other fix.

Good. Fuck them. Fuck Symantec, too. Piece of shit likes to thrash my disk I/O on my laptop every five minutes to update something.

We're switching to TrendMicro, anyway. And everybody who has a home PC (who is actually stupid enough to get a virus) should use AVG. It's free.

I've been using Microsoft's Security Essentials which is also free. Haven't had a problem with that either.

Oh, and expect to be billed by your customers, McAfee. A several billion dollar class lawsuit will destroy you.
