My computer has a REALLY irritating virus that is preventing me from executing virtually any program on my computer--including anti-viral software. It's called Antispyware Soft, and I need it gone NOW. Anyone have any suggestions to how I can rid myself of it?

Do you know where it lives? Boot to safemode and see if you can remove it.

Also, stop going to pr0n sites.

Hold / Hit F8 while your PC boots prior to Windows coming up. You'll get a menu of options, one of which to boot into safe mode.

If you know the name of the virus, did you look online for removal instructions? First google search returned this:

http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-antispyware-soft.html

Boot into Safe Mode, turn off the Proxy redirect it configured, then download and install the patch they have there.

How'd you get this virus? Sounds like one of those that makes you think you have viruses and then offers to clean your PC... then BAM you have a virus.

Actually, this is spyware, so it's even stupider.

How do I do that?
The link I sent you was pretty explicit about that... there was even a screenshot.

Avast > AVG, btw.

Whatever. They are both better than getting a damn virus.

Sooo I somehow wound up with this as well. Killed my internet explorer, and even though AVG was running it didn't do spit to stop it.

Luckily Firefox was still working, so I was able to download rkill and stop it, and reboot after turning off all non-Microsoft launch programs.
