  • Steam wont let me play my games?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Heres a weird one that i have never encountered. I try to launch Half-Life 2 Ep 1 and steam tells me the servers are too busy to fulfill my request and i should try again in a few minutes. An hour later, no luck.

Wow. Almost makes me want to jump in the boat with Zeus, what bullshit that i cant play a game i technically bought and own. A physical CD would never have this problem. Thanks steam.

Try changing regions or deleting the clientregistry.blob file in your steam folder and restart steam.

That's just it, you don't own the game. You own a license to play it which, technically, can be rescinded at any time. Part and parcel of any downloadable title (and, technically, DVDs). Why do you think you can't transfer/trade/sell it? You don't actually own it

Whatever. Steam is just this launcher tool that gives you access to friends list and the like. You can still go to the game itself and launch the EXE file. Steam isn't trying to fuck you over with DRM crap, like Ubisoft might be.

Yeah Steam almost never has that problem. Don't let it discourage you. If it's going on for you long enough I'd check the Steam forums for a work around.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't hate Steam. I think it's a pretty solid service and love the fact that a small developer like Valve can offer something like that which no other large conglomerate can even touch. I was just trying to point out the issues and limitations that come with even the best of such programs/services. It may not have the customer-hating DRM bullshit Ubi's trying to pull but that doesn't mean it's void of its own problems and limitations

Well, valve games still arent working, and im not sure why. The servers cant possibly still be too busy. Others have been posting about it on the forums, but no one (including steam), has devised a solution. I can play braid, bioshock, etc, but not HL:EP1.

Ive deleted blobs, re installed steam, re DL'ed the game (well tried, because the servers are too busy), switched regions and nothing is working. I'm going with the 'time will solve all problems' solution and play other stuff while i wait.

Total BS. I did forget how frustrating computer games were at times to simply get to work. I used to like to troubleshoot and problem solve, nowadays i need instant gratification.

I'm joining the "never had that problem in the 6 years I've had Steam" group... must be something simple and stupid.

I've gotten it at random times with Valve games off Steam. It's very weird. I've never had it reoccur in the next five minutes, though.
