His point #5 is what I've been saying for the last decade. I have absolutely zero intention of every paying for 99% of what I download. I grab it 'cause it's quick and easily accessible. And there are a ton of pirates who grab stuff 'cause its there but would buy very, very little.....and it's not 'cause of the lack of coin. And I would never have purchased the games or other memorabilia or even considered buying the manga (almost bought a huge set of them last year) or DVDs related to Naruto if the fansubs weren't available. There's a reason Viz ain't goin' after Taka and the other fansubbers too hard, they basically created the market for them
Also, it's very simple why iTunes shows are lower quality and have less features, such as being able to share them: it's all about control. In the last century, companies wanted to sell you a product and they wanted that product to be of high quality and something to be proud of (well, at least up to the mid-80s or so). In the new millennium, it's all about selling a very specific experience so they can maximize revenue streams. Why allow someone who bought the show off of iTunes and has WAAY more than enough room on his 16GB over-priced iPhone be able to transfer it over to his/her computer when you can just sell them another version on there or get the extra revenue stream from streaming? The way it's set up now, you don't own that particular copy of the episode you just paid for on iTunes, you simple own a license to watch it that particular way.
It's complete bullshit but the consumers aren't correcting the marketplace. No sense in complaining about it if the majority of people are gonna tell these companies it's OK to go down that path.
I was there on that fateful day, were you?
