Anyone else getting record breaking temperatures, every day?

We've had temperatures in the 30's all three days of September, great beach weather; particularly since the water is so warm right now. The forecast said we were supposed to get a drop off in temperature today, that didn't happen. We're getting weather that's roughly 3 degrees warmer than the previous record for early September; and 8-10 degrees above average.

The good thing about the warm water is that it makes for some of the best beach days ever. The bad thing about the warmer water is that it will sustain hurricanes as they hit our little piece of land jutting out into the Atlantic. The first one may hit tomorrow. Last time a hurricane hit here (2003) it caused millions in damages (though almost all of it was blowing tree branches down all over the place, and stuff at the marina).

I remember reading that hurricanes occur due to a temperature gradient so if everything just gets hotter it doesn't lead to stronger hurricanes since the difference between your cold/hot areas is still the same. Then again it's not like anyone really knows what's responsible for stronger hurricanes...

Someone's just going to say it's been cold recently so global warming must be wrong. The temperature you experience is a local issue, and if you use it one way as evidence of global warming then the reverse must disprove it. And yes I am aware temperature overall globally is going up too, but that's on the under of less than 1 degree per year and it wouldn't make a very good headline if you say, "This year's temperature is 0.5C higher than average!"

The last decade or so has been nearly one record-breaking year after another. And no scientist worth his salt denies that there's a global warning phenomenon going on all across the globe. It's the causes and their respective severity that's questioned

I'm not talking about one day. I'm talking about a decade long pattern. Hell, even if we have unusual winters, it's still could be global warming, considering that it affects temperatures hot and cold. It's about moving around the jetstreams and changing global weather patterns in general. It's only called global warming because, on average, the world is getting hotter.

It's droughts and flood all at the same time.

Well, the greenhouse effect is a proven fact. Raising levels of greenhouse gas increases the greenhouse effect; this is also a proven fact. The issue of whether or not this all leads to global warming is the one under debate, mostly because it is a sensitive political issue. There are a lot of very wealthy people who have a lot of very "healthy" contributions to governments and other such projects, who rely on an industry which pumps greenhouse gases into the one atmosphere we all share.

We have about 60-70 years left here, our children greater (up to 120 since some aren't born yet), our grandchildren still more (Up to 160? Assuming lifespans lengthen). The people running these corporations, for the most part, have about 10-30.



PS. I'm on the edge of a heavy tropical storm/Class 1 hurricane (right now it is at 123kmph, which is just shy of a class 1 hurricane, which requires 125kmph winds).

It has been raining for a bit, and the winds literally just picked up this minute. Nothing incredibly spectacular.

Power flickered, but nothing serious. I think about 10,000 people were without power in the rural areas temporarilly (not too much out of the ordinary for storms). Overall, I think the storm must have blown out before it got here. It was fairly windy and rainy, but not nearly as bad as what people were expecting, and probably can be considered tame compares to a typical blizzard.

My Internet is down though (I'm on mobile), but it had been down from time to time through the heat wave as well; the humidity may have had some effect.

The heat has been ridiculous this summer it was consistently 95 (35) degrees plus in St Louis for most of the summer and now still gets around 90 (32.2).

Canadian "record temperatures" sound awfully nice to me!

You think it's been much cooler than 35 up here for July and August? On days it didn't rain, we were regularly over 30
