However, game reviews are basically the last thing I ever read in the magazine. The vast majority of the time I already know I'm going to buy a game before it comes out And it's still easier to flip the page away from an advertisement then fucking having to find some small text in the corner of a screen to click on to move past an online ad.
The best video game magazines in the history of this continent - EGM and Next Generation - died from the advent of the internet. It's such a losing proposition that Nintendo sold Nintendo Power. Do you think they'd EVER sell a money-making business activity? Mags are basically dead, just a couple left for the pure hardcores. Hey, I luvs my mags, I have a huge collection of them (including Nintendo Power #1-80 something, Gamepro #3 or 4 up to a lot, and EGM # 6 on to the end) and I wish I could get the good ones. But they dead, man.
Growing up, the reviews in the mags were always interesting and may have swayed the decision-making process on borderline games but yeah, I pretty much know what I want. But I always read them. And I'm not sure about you, but I used to actually read the ads, they were some of the most interesting parts of a video game mag. Fabio dressed up as an ancient warrior with fire and brimstone and a mountain range behind him? Classic :-)
