  • Minecraft Beta released today

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

* Added Narrative for early game to add context, and also to give goals for later game play
* Added features at the request of modders (will know very soon what these are, and I`ll update the post)

Purchase details:
* Price hike to 14.95€ (something like 20 CA/US Dollars)
* If you purchase the game in beta, you get the game updated free until the release version
* If you already own the game (bought during Alpha), you get all updates and all future content and expansions for free.

Sales data:
* Minecraft sold 850,000 copies during the Alpha period. This must be some sort of record. It also means that the game creator has made almost 13 million dollars.

Thanks Mully for pointing me to this game back a few months.

Judging my the screenshots, which game would you think was better? =P

Wow. Didn't know it had been released. Thanks Seeker. Have they had any problems, that you know of, with previous release game saves? Just wondering.

Have you played beta?

Actually, I am not really sure what went into the Beta, judging from his last blog post it seems he is still implementing features. So it is Beta in name only; probably because he realized: "Hmmm, wait a minute, this game is revolutionary, and the deal I gave everyone is a little too good. I could sell millions of copies; but it won't do me any good if I can't sell expansions later because I gave them away for free in a deal, Will Wright would slap me!"

Well, 850,000 people will get the expansions for free. He said he is putting in some new stuff for Christmas.

I just hope 4Chan doesn't attack his site again. They did so before saying that he was not developing fast enough as the reason for their DDOS attack; not just because they were jealous or anything.

So I have a question. How does the multiplayer on this work? If I set up something, would I be able to invite you into my single player game I have been working on, or would it have to be a seperate game? I started a project and its turning out to be a whole lot bigger than I realized.

I am not actually sure. Although I have thought about getting some willing people together to re-create the Final Fantasy 6 world. Then perhaps expand, building the other FF realms in adjacent continents. Imagine sailing from Junon Harbour with a stop off at Balamb, and another in Nikeah while on the way to Fabul?

I know that some people built a 1:1 replica of Midgar.

By the sounds of videos; that seems to be how it would work, although such projects would take WAY longer using more recent versions that aren't classic mode... Although there'd be a lot more to do.

You can bet someone is already well underway in constructing Azeroth.
