  • Maybe you don't have as many versions of FF4 as you'd like?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Up-res'd, widescreen version of FF4 coming to PSP. Includes After Years episodes.

I will probably buy it if it comes to the PS store, since to play the After Years would require a Wii and about a $40 investment.

I am all for Square re-releasing my favorite titles of theirs, but this kind of treatment needs to be givien to FF6.

With The After Years on disc? I'm there. Better to pay $30 for this than $26 to d'load them on the Wii

And where's my update to FF6, dammit!?!

I would gladly take a 3DS remake of FF7 that would simply just fix some of the complaints I had, tighten the minigames, and expand on things a little like in other remakes.

I would gladly take any of FF6, 7, or 8 remade though.

P.S. I really enjoyed FF4 AY back when I played it. Probably more than the original FF4. AY was more plot focussed and larger in scope; the world just felt like a bigger place with more going on.

I own FF4 on 3 different platforms. The DS version has the best main game, the exclusive GBA extras are not something to be missed though. Maybe those will be in the PSP version too. I was actually thinking of getting a PSPGo just to have something to play FF8 and Xenogears on, they're very cheap now; about 150; if it has those extras I'll certainly get it.

You can probably find one even cheaper than that. They're good for playing PS1 games on for sure, and it's much easier to carry around than a regular PSP. However, there's also the possibility that the last handful of decent games being released for the system won't even come to PSN. I'm not sure if FF4 has been confirmed for PSN or not.

Xenogears and Vagrant Story have been rated by the ESRB for PSN but neither have release dates yet as far as I know. I would like to try VS again since I didn't give it much of a chance the first time around.

Exactly the opposite. The download experiment has failed so miserably that they even decided to release Patapon 2, the game that started the whole download-only thing, on disc for $10. The PSPGo has been such a colossal failure that Sony's likely going to include a cartridge/disc slot in the PSP2.

Sony fancies themselves a competitor to the iPhone as opposed to the DS. Expect the phone capabilities to drive the price into the iPhone range

Sony isn't stubborn like Nintendo about the phone thing. No parent wants to buy a handheld game system for their kid when their kid already has a phone with its own games on it. I'll admit that Sony might be going overboard with the technology, which drives the price, but at least Sony has their head on straight about converting into a phone/game system unit.

Then again, Nintendo may not be stubborn. They may just have no choice. They don't have any experience whatsoever in phones, and they don't like bringing in some third-party to help them out. (That would be a sign of weakness from the big giant.) So, they will just go down the same path they can and try to market on price, even though they know that it's only a short-term solution.

Nintendo makes game machines, not all purpose machines. They're a pure gaming company. They don't have phone capabilities 'cause phone does not equal gaming. It's really that simple

Sine, if an industry outsider read your posts, they would assume that Nintendo is a struggling company. They're not. What they do may not be what you want, but it's working out pretty well for them. Perhaps they actually do know what they're doing.

I don't think including phone capabilities in the DS will do much for sales. The major reason why Sony Ericsson (not Sony; Sony maintains a partnership with them) is releasing the Xperia Play (Playstation phone) is because the company exists solely to manufacture mobile phones. Sony can see a little profit as well since they'll be able to distribute some of their properties over the service. If Nintendo was partnered with a mobile phone company you'd probably see something similar. It wouldn't be useful to Nintendo to develop a DS phone, if it was, then there would be one. Right now the DS has outsold all mobile phones short of the Nokia 1100 and last year surpassed the Motorola RAZR. There's no need or use for a DS phone; not any more than there has ever been for Nintendo to develop it's own PC line.

From what I understand, the NGP/PSP2 won't have any phone capabilities either. It doesn't seem to me that Sony is necessarily interested in that market. Though they do seem to be interested in high-end multimedia devices which are comparable (in some ways) to the smartphones.

But....the games may slightly appeal to children.....they don't have HD blood splattered everywhere......A SENIOR MIGHT LIKE IT....how could they possibly know what they're doing?

You act like Sony is a struggling company. They're not.

And then again, maybe we shouldn't debate about topics such as these and just let the "industry experts" tell us how it's going to work. Hell, what the fuck is the point of this forum? God forbid that a person might be right and a company might be wrong. I mean that's NEVER happened before.
