  • So whatever update was done to Civ 5 broke my game

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

September 2nd, Civ 5 was updated with what should have been some minor changes. Ever since that update, the game doesn't even begin to start loading after selecting the direct X version; or it gives an error "The game is currently unavailable please try again another time".

One thing that can be said about Civ 5 is that I have never had such a headache with just trying to get a game to work. This is the first Civilization game where I have ever had any technical issues. I think the major problem is the fact that this is the first time a Civ game is linked to the Steam service. I bought it at retail hoping to avoid Steam, but all the disk did was download the game from Steam. So far all of the problems I have found with the game look to be linked to some Steam error (I can only assume something happened here too, although I can't verify it). I hate the idea of having a game and not knowing whether or not I'll be able to play it due to the state of some lousy service like Steam.

I have a lot of hopes that Origin will be a superior service in the future. I really hope at some point Civ 6 will be available there or by some other means, because I really do not want to have to deal with Steam again in the future.

Anti-virus software can cause this issue on both Steam AND Origin. It's neither services fault. Turn that crap off, or get one that is less sensitive, and then right-click whatever game you're having issues with and click 'Verify the integrity of game cache'.

I didn't ever think that whining would actually help me.

Again, Thankyou Eric =)
