The indictment accuses the suspects of being members of "the Mega Conspiracy, a worldwide criminal organization whose members engaged in criminal copyright infringement and money laundering on a massive scale."

So basically what they're trying to say is, Megaupload is Shadowlaw, and Swiss Beatz is M Bison.

Darn Crime Syndicates....wait what.

Here's what I don't get: Since when did civil law suddenly turn into criminal law? You can't "arrest" somebody for copyright infringement.

Uhm.... copyright law falls under federal jurisdiction in the United States, doesn't it? A company can still sue an individual or group of individuals under civil law for damages, but can't the govenment also impose a fine and/or jail sentence?

I thought if you're making money (selling the service) then it's criminal. Most copyright stuff we hear about are civil since you downloading whatever from whatever tool you use doesn't actually make you any money. At best it saves you money you would've spent elsewhere, but you're definitely not gaining money. People who sell bootleg/counterfeit stuff get arrested, even in China if they're dumb enough to get caught.
