  • Soul Calibur 5

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

So I noticed SC5 is out and checked it out online, and I tried searching Soul Calibur 5 Siegfried Final Boss and didn't found anything, and then I realized that the story mode doesn't feature anyone who was at all relevent to the SC universe except possibly Nightmare. I mean, having a SC game with Siegfried versus Nightmare (in SC1 the equivalent battle is Nightmare versus Inferno) is like a Street Fighter game without Ryu. While the story of SC is not exceptionally great, all these characters feel like they belong in the story, even those who shouldn't be, like Talim. On a rough level I guess you got Seigfried, Sophitia, and Ivy being the major characters against Nightmare, though for some reason the game manages to work with characters like Xianghua who shows up only to say "Justice will prevail! Just kidding!", or Maxi who seems absolutely unimportant to the story and dies heroically for absolutely no reason.

I mean if the game wants to reinvent itself it could have the final battle featuring Siegfried and Nightmare fight each other and fall off a cliff and two new guys pick up Soul Edge/Soul Calibur and continue fighting. I get that they probably don't want you to play as Siegfried in every game to get what is essentially *the* story. That doesn't mean replace the cast of the story mode with a bunch of guys who I have no idea why they are there. Not only that, they're not even memorable in any way. Like I said I have no idea why Maxi or Xianghua are actually there for in the world of SC but they actually have some kind of interesting story.

Most fighting games don't give a shit about their story. -_-

Exceptions are like BlazBlue or the most recent Mortal Kombat.

Street Fighter isn't about the story, but if there isn't like a Ryu versus Ken or Ryu versus Akuma is still feels wrong.
