Each Olympic there's always the question of 'this year's USA team versus Dream Team". I don't get why so many people insist on the original Dream Team being unbeatable, especially when half of the time the 'experts' they ask is either Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan (who are part of the original Dream Team). Based on the way some people defend the Dream Team it'd seem like the human race suffered an de-evolution from the 1990s to now so our people are now physically inferior compared to what they're 20 years ago, when reality it's more like the other way around. Yes 20 years is too short for evolution to kick in but this is more like how NFL linesman are way bigger than they were 20 years ago because people started to realize bigger guys = better linesman and you make enough money in NFL that it's worth the risk of being way too fat. Likewise in pro basketball you now make enough money to spend money into developing young prodigy into guys like LeBron who are faster and stronger than people were 20 years ago, because they're willing to put money into developing guys like LeBron at a very young age due to the massive marketing potential.

Now one argument I see that does make sense is the original Dream Team is definitely more well-known and are more likeable, but that's like Tebow is a better quarterback than Vicks because Tebow is a good guy. I can agree you might not find a group of people like the original Dream Team that's universally liked, but I don't think their skill is unmatched. Yes people talk about how they play 'physical basketball' but again the 2012 guys are generally stronger overall so if you want to get physical, it's not like they'll be at a disadvantage there. People say someone like Malone will elbow LeBron, but why don't people ask the reverse, i.e. can Malone take a charge from LeBron who usually just barrels his way to the basket?
