  • Cinematic trailers are pretty, but stupid.

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Does it bug anybody else when a cinematic trailer comes out, and then later then the gameplay is revealed it, the trailer had almost nothing to do with it.

There are some games that have ACTUALLY pulled this off nicely, Assassin's Creed for example, everything in the cinematic trailer you can actually do in game.

There are also cinematic trailers that have no gameplay, but they're up front about it, they just give you a hint of the story, any WoW cinematic for example.

However the biggest offender of the false cinematic advertisement, would probably be Dead Island, critics and the general gamer population just loved that trailer, they were HYPE, but looking back, that trailer didn't have a goddamn thing to do with the game, and the game itself wasn't exactly AAA title.

I just saw Final Fantasy XIV's new 2.0 relaunch trailer, and it showed awesome epic imagery, kinda like Final Fantasy XIV's original launch trailer...but the thing is when you get into the combat of the game(Launch FFXIV), you're throwing a rock at some tiny insect that for some reason can kill you unless you're in a group of 5. I think GT's original FF Review hysterically summed it up.

Xenosaga trailer had a scene of the Citan look alike fighting Margulis except that scene never happened in the game (until the next game anyway).

I don't really look at trailers. I figure it's safer to look at the back of the box to decide if a game's good than trailers.

Wow, that is a brutal review. I'm sure it's well-deserved.

Also, comic books and their covers are the worse offenders of this.

I buy comic books solely based on the cover! Though the Japanese are pretty cheap about covers which is why I don't really buy very much manga anyway. I mean it's mostly a ripoff considered the easy alternative (piracy), but they won't even give me a cool cover for my $6.
