Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet

Playing Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. This is a pretty neat game. It's almost like a modern cross between Metroid, Solar Jetman, and Limbo. Like the name implies, the planet itself is pretty much trying to get you in many different forms. The art and music is very well designed and definitely adds to the gameplay.

I beat this game over the summer after getting it during Boxing Week last year. It's definitely a very fun Solar Jetman / Metroidvania mixture, well worth your 6 or so hours. That and Outland were my two favs from last year. I've never seen the DLC on sale yet, though.

I ended up getting a ton of games this Boxing Week (well, Dec 21 on) from XBLA as well. Mark of the Ninja, Fez, Deadlight, and Joe Danger 2. And I still have Stacking, Costume Quest, Alan Wake AN, Bastion, and a few others waiting to be played. This week, Sound Shapes and Tokyo Jungle are on sale on PSN and I'm very much debating those two. Also, that freemium game Jetpack Joyride is also free to play on PSN so I grabbed that. So many freakin' downloadable games to play....

I get bored and annoyed with Outland. They introduce this mechanic with the red/blue shifting, and then they just drill it to the ground, to the point that you have some really annoying platform puzzles in certain places. The game looks cool, but halfway into it, I'm asking myself "Is this really all there is to this game?"

"All"? It's basically an Ikaruga platformer and the mechanic is used very well throughout. Lots of variety and ways to make progress and certainly different for each boss. It's only a 6 hour or so game, it's not like you're playin' it for 20+ hours. There's more than enough variety for that length.

I've been lookin' more and more into Tokyo Jungle and it sounds like one of those great oddball titles. I may have to use my 1 month PSN + membership and get that and Sound Shapes by Monday

Well, I don't like Ikaruga for similar reasons. ITSP has some variety with the different weapons and puzzles, which made it a lot more fun. Just finished it today. Still haven't finished Outland.

You don't like Ikaruga? OK, I can see you not liking Outland. Just didn't think it was possible to not like Ikaruga if you like shmups :-)

I haven't seen the DLC for Shadow Planet go on sale yet. I may get it if it ever does
