  • Disney: Infinity to demolish Skylanders?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Disney is essentially releasing their version of Skylanders:

With their stable of characters (Pixar is also included), if the game ain't shit, it may make Skylanders obsolete.

Now what happens when they do the same with other properties they own like, say, Marvel and Star Wars?

It is a really neat and expandable concept (a great way to sell DLC and figures). Skylanders was a really interesting concept wrapped around a poor to middling game. The second one cemented its mediocrity, and it is nice to see a company pick up and seemingly run with the concept. I haven't seen any gameplay, so I cannot attest to the quality of the game, but Disney has a stable of well known properties that it can exploit, instead of the new characters that had to be made up to accompany Spyro in Skylanders.

If a game worth playing is wrapped around this figure collecting game concept, I will buy it. Skylanders was an interested test case, but show me a good game plz.

That's pretty much my feelings on Skylanders as well. Disney will certainly try to make this game "accessible" (developers are the guys who did the Toy Story 3 game) so it's not going to be everything people our age will want, but if it's a fun game with lots of expansion by buying up $10 figures (or 3 for $20) it'll certainly be tempting.

And if they use this basic concept and tweak it for teen audiences for Marvel and Star Wars, you could get the games you really want

Now, how long before Nintendo announces their Pokemon version of this? They could even go all the way back to the start and release the Pikachu, Bulbasur, and Squirtle ones. You don't think with all the figures and merch they already sell kids wouldn't go ga-ga over that?

I haven't seen anything that shakes my faith that Disney couldn't program their way out of Pong.

...because Skylanders is such a AAA game they need to outdo?

No, I'm just saying that Disney hasn't really created anything themselves worthwhile. Things like Kingdom Hearts was all Square, even though they put their Buena Vista Games logo on it.

Everything else has been failed abortions of movie games that still continue to give movie games a bad name. Not to mention that the "Interactive Studios" division has gone through so many mergers and buyouts that I doubt there's any ounce of creativity that hasn't been beaten down by the Disney empire.

Sine you repeatedly and often confuse a games quality with how well it will actually sell from a business stand-point.

The target is children, children don't give a shit about quality, and they eat up gimmicky junk like this.
